God doesn't call every Christian to go off to seminary, but there are certain matters of doctrine-that is, the church's teaching-that every Christian simply must know. Theology is important because what we believe affects how we live. Whether you're a relatively new believer in Jesus or a more mature Christian looking for a quick brush-up on the basics of faith, Christian Beliefs is for you. This accessible guide to twenty basic Christian beliefs is a condensation of Wayne Grudem's award-winning book on systematic theology, prized by pastors and teachers everywhere. He and his son, Elliot, have boiled down the essentials of Christian theology for the average layperson and have made them clear and applicable to life. You will learn about the Bible, the characteristics of God, what it means to be created in God's image, what God has done for us in Christ, the purpose of the church, and much more. Each chapter includes questions for personal review or group discussion.

My son and I have been walking through this book. It gives good explanations for difficult concepts. I want to strengthen my children's understanding of God and His plan by reading this book. I hope they keep their copies of the book. This isn't a book of personal beliefs, but a book that clearly shows what the Scriptures teach on a given topic. I feel like I have grown in my understanding of God as I have walked with my son. It's nice that the two books match up so well, because I' ve used the Systematic Theology text to go deeper into a few of the topics. Highly recommend.

Theology in simple language
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
The work is written in an easy to understand language. The end of each chapter has comprehension and reflection questions. I want the book to have more writing space so I can take more notes as I read. A great read for anyone who wants to learn more about Christianity. The chapter on the attributes of God is one of my favorites so far.

Intro to Systematic Theology
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
His Systematic Theology textbook is used at the college level in this book. The basic facts of the major essential doctrines of the faith are contained in the book. It's written from a Calvinist perspective so Calvinists will feel at home here. Reviewers that complain about the lack of detail in this book need to remember that it was written for laymen. Questions at the end of each study are used to apply. The questions are easy to comprehend. The index is the most helpful in the book. It's a great introduction to Systematic Theology for laymen.

Helpful
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
The cover of the Bible has been read three times by me. I have not taken any theology courses. The book was helpful. It is written well and organized. Several concepts were clarified. It was inspiring to me as well. I read it as part of a group and some of my friends found it dry. It is easy to read. I recommend it to someone who wants to learn. The New Christians Handbook was a few years ago. I like Christian Beliefs a bit better.

Calvinist / reformed theology
Derived From Web , Jun 15, 2020
The book is from a Calvinist point of view. The author made it clear that it was a controversial belief. Throughout the chapter, he continues to present this as fact, instead of the widely rejected set of beliefs they are. I don't think this is a good idea for new Christians who are just figuring things out.

Overall a Good Primer
Derived From Web , Dec 3, 2019
The Bible, the nature of God, sin, the Church, and many other Christian truths are covered in some great and concise chapters. It's a good resource that explains what you can find in Systematic Theology. The chapter on election was weak and confusing, so I gave it four stars rather than five. The Grudems acknowledge the theological divide on this matter, but theygloss over it with statements such as " It is important to understand...", " While some people will disagree...", and " At this point some people will object..." It would have been better to acknowledge there are two interpretations of the reformed view.
