Originally, I was looking for a good English translation of Pascal's Pensees to read when I came across this book. Based on the reviews, I opted for this “version†and couldn t be happier about the decision. It effectively ends up being a competition on which the genius of Kreeft and the brilliance of Pascal's commentary is better, and there is no clear winner. It is very readable, fascinating and relevant, and you will be no doubt better for having read it.

Although the Pensees were written about 350 years ago, they are an excellent vehicle for the modern believer in Jesus Christ to help understand the problem of addressing non-believers in an intelligent way. Both the Pensees and the commentary by Kreeft show a passionate belief in Christ as well as an understanding of the difficulty that modern non-believer has in believing the things we Christians take as settled in our minds.

This is highly recommended. It helped me to digest this great thinker. As a Baptist pastor, I agree with so much of this book, as it all centers on JESUS CHRIST. Peter Kreeft, thank you.

Best book for understanding Pascal's thought and times (and our times too).
Derived From Web , Jan 6, 2017
This is a enticing, clarifying read. Years ago, I tried to read Pascal and just couldn t understand. He also comments in small chunks and takes them in comments. Modern philosophy begins with a swooning love affair with Descarte, from which we have not recovered, and we are caught up in current materialistic scientistic materialism. Pascal never drank Descartes'Koolaid. It is a shame that his work is not more widely read and appreciated.
