Winner of the Grand Prix de Litterature Policiere: As chief medical examiner of New York City, Paul Konig has one of the world's most difficult jobs - and when his daughter goes missing, he must take on his most wrenching case yet.

New York City in the 1970s is a dark, dangerous, and threatening place. One of the bright spots in this decaying metropolis is Paul Konig. As the city's chief medical examiner, he has developed an impressive reputation for his skills in forensic pathology - skills that will be put to the ultimate test when a dangerous psychopath kidnaps Konig's daughter.

Herbert Lieberman takes his readers on a gruesome journey through the ten most difficult days in the life of a man at the very end of his rope. In addition to being awoken to phone calls featuring his daughter's desperate screams each night, Konig's professional life is in danger. Between the case of a serial killer who leaves a trail of severed body parts in his wake; the investigation of questionable forensic work on an alleged prison suicide under Konig's watch; and the naked ambitions of a deputy medical examiner, it will take every ounce of Konig's strength to save his own life - as well as his family's.

   Love this series
James Patterson never disappoints, and I'm happy to say that this was another good book in the maximum series. If you are used to the likes of Iggy, Max, Fang and the Gang, you may be disappointed as they are not the focal point of this book.
I never get tired of reading Maximum Ride books
I don 't know if this is really the last one, but I hope not. Love the new “new family ” of characters and James Patterson does not disappoint with this latest book. Great action and a lot of final to HAWK.
   Hawk, Max, Fang
Thank you to the authors for bringing them back, I can 't wait for more!
   adventurous ride
This book brought out all the Y feelings. At first I was annoyed and how rebellious hawk was, but understanding all she has gone through in life made me intrigued to see how she would handle all the situations she was going through. Extremely excited to see how she dealt with it all and nervous as it got intense! Moving forward to see what new adventures she will encounter.
   The best follow up.
First let me say that I am 69 yrs old and I have read all the maximum books. My granddaughter hooked me and we share them all, but I missed reading them, so I was so happy when I was shopping for a new book called Hawk. I went home and downloaded it to my and sent a message to my granddaughter to check it out, then lost her son of 20 months to Croup and 2 days later gave birth to her daughter. I cried a slot while reading it for the unjust life takes you on the book was just proof that good things come from tragedy of any kind. Thank you for proving that the thing will work out if we all stand together. And keep Hawk and the rest of the hybrids alive and together.
   Good read
Play the plot and be fun. Qwerty characters are ambiguous. Around is all good read. This story went well into the series and was true to the previous characters.
Amazing book but 1 thing I would have changed (4.9)
Spoiler Alert I loved the book because it was great storytelling, but Cammy goes from absolutely hating hawk to being amazing friends in a few days. And also, how could Eagle see the people guarding Joke, but they couldn t see him. Another thing bad, though not a single thing that I remember.
Yess! Loves this sequel to hawk!
Since I was 14 and now am reading the maximum ride books. I can of course relate to the mother - daughter relationship thing. I am so happy that these books continue and I can 't wait for Birdsthe next adventure!!! Dear Lord, come soon! My favorite part was when Fang showed up for the hawk in the city center and when Hawk taught to survive in the forest with Max. First off, a great deal of fun is had by Michael Kauff. It was a little bit of a slow, but man, worth the read. I need more!! Please, Haha! Please, write 400 pages. And I really hope we can see how Fang's immortal gene influences hawks - genes or something and I still want to know why she forgot her name.
