Picture book biography introduces us to the country’s first Native American female engineer
Derived From Web , Oct 13, 2021
There is no published book on Cherokee values, but they are ingrained in all Cherokee children. Mary Golda Ross learned these values and followed them throughout her life, as she achieved great success in her math classes, became a teacher and then an engineer. She later found time to recruit American Indians, especially women and young Americans, to enter the math and science fields. This first native American female picture book biography introduces us to the country's inspirational engineer, who, though her name is not well known, has made a huge contribution to our aeronautical history. The back matter of the book includes the four Cherokee values and a helpful author's note. It is a must have for elementary libraries.

Representation Matters
Derived From Web , Sep 1, 2021
A native woman certainly does not fit that mold, but it did not matter to Mary Gold Ross. It is so rare to see books about native people working in STEM, yet it is so important for children to see themselves represented.

Having recently read the story of the first postgraduate women engineer Damayant Hingorani Gupta and learning her challenges to this achievement, I was also interested in this story. Loved the story of not only the pioneer and first female engineer of Lockheed, but also all the Cherokee values she followed in learning skills, humility, sharing the credit with the team.
