Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

In Adam Cesare's terrifying young adult debut, Quinn Maybrook finds herself caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress--that just may cost her life.

Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don't know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half.

On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.

Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It's a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.

   Slasher fan? Read this!
If you have a love of slasher flicks with every single slasher trope represented, then read this book. I had a fantastic time on the whole way and will be even better with the sequel coming soon!

   Like an 80 slasher film
This book was full of bonkers in the best way! When the action starts, it doesn 't stop. High Body Count, Intelligent Killers and Cross Heroes. Totally worth reading the book.

   Great slasher!
This book was a fantastically fun ride! I don 't see it as a YA novel.

Slasher movie in the form of a book.
If you are a Slasher fan, this is the book for you. It is a good story with a well written book. It is a quick read that is especially hard to obtain the last 100 or so pages.

   Politically Motivated Slasher Horror?
I mean really? It's like the author in every political scenario was trying to throw out content that he could find and throw both angles at the reader. Afterwards, a few good things were thrown for a controversial measure in the end. I picked this up to read a political horror novel for Halloween, not having fun opinions and stereotypes thrown at me almost constantly. It isn 't difficult to see right through this agenda. Ugh, just unconsidered! Now I say that the writing is well done. The characters are what you expect.

   A Thrilling, Gruesome Ride
Nick knows himself how to get around a cornfield... and a Machete... and a chainsaw... But I am way ahead of myself. A cornfield in a clown will keep you on the edge of your seat, riding a horror coaster until the very last page. Ceare starts gently, but don 't get lulled. By mid-book, there is the Whilashing action and stomach-turning guts galore. I'm going to let this book be settled for a while and I'm ready for a sequel!

   Worth reading
Normally, I don 't leave reviews, but felt it was worth my time to leave one for this book. I have read a piece of fiction that I first enjoyed in quite some time. It has a great school horror vibe for a younger generation, which is a old blend. Well done, Roberto Martinez. Will look at some of the authors'other works as well.

   Hooked from the start
One thing I love about Adam Cesare is that his books feel like Dope ass horror films you would see in theaters with a giant bucket of popcorn and your best friends. I love when horror can be both a good time and a terrifying time. It is something that not all horror writers can master, but Adam Cesare is really good at it. It's a QUICK '' read so that you won 't put it down. It is enthralling and exciting and gory and the perfect slasher to get lost in while you are cozied up on the couch. Quinn was not my absolute favorite, though I won 't lie. For the most part of the story, something about her bothered me. I can not put my finger exactly why, but HER DAD IS MY PRIDE AND JOY.
