Book Overview

For the first time in English, all the fiction by the writer who has been called the greatest Spanish-language writer of our century collected in a single volume

A Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition

From Jorge Luis Borges's 1935 debut with The Universal History of Iniquity, through his immensely influential collections Ficciones and The Aleph, these enigmatic, elaborate, imaginative inventions display his talent for turning fiction on its head by playing with form and genre and toying with language. Together these incomparable works comprise the perfect one-volume compendium for all those who have long loved Borges, and a superb introduction to the master's work for those who have yet to discover this singular genius.

It's absolutely fantastic; I bought this for a class
An anthology of Borges's short stories. It is absolutely fantastic. I bought this for a class and though the class is over, I keep this book.

Borges is great but the quality of the book is terrible
The pages of the book are uneven, cut and ill-cut. It gives it a ragged aspect that would have been good if the book were old, but in this case it only underlines the cheap quality of the provider. The replacement I ordered with the same issues arrived.

How literature and philosophy can be saved by parables
This is something very difficult to find, almost by definition a literary writer who thinks in abstract terms. These are philosophical thought experiments in their purest form, yet somehow magically packaged in a playful literary athmosphere. Borges is a mathematical philosopher first and last. Ignore the Latin American categorization and the nonsense about his background and personal life, one should embedding him in a socio-cultural framework.

   Never tire of reading Borges
I have read several stories of his several times. I lent his Labyrinths to a co-worker ; I am not worried if she keeps them. I have another book by Borges to hold onto.

The Argentinian Gentleman of science fiction.
What a treat! Even translated into English, the adroit, mesmerizing, inventive hand of Jorge Luis Borges shows through. His work convinces me that he may have prefaced the movement of magic realism. A beautiful collection.

Get Ready for a Trip Into Wonder
This is a beautiful book physically. Jorge Luis Borges never fails to blow your mind quietly.

The beauty of an old book
Apart from the old writing, this beautiful book is also described as an second '' quality. I am glad that I bought it from the seller. Like books, wines are made. They get better with age, when they are well preserved.

   Excellent Collection
This book I shared with a friend! It is probably the best collection of stories from Borges that I've ever come across. Here I have access to ALL the stories I’ve ever seen and several stories I have never read before!

A scrap paper copy of a masterpiece
It is shameful that such a poor quality, ragged by the edges print of a masterpiece, is allowed to be sold. And that too is new on Amazon.

All Borges' fiction, by the best translator I've encountered
I encountered Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius and hooked. Fortunately, I read this compendium of his fiction through the best of the two or three translators I ran across. His fiction actually encouraged me to read in the original Spanish. Get the book just in time...
