Book Overview

A New York Times bestseller

A charming introduction to the basics of Korean cooking in graphic novel form, with 64 recipes, ingredient profiles, and more, presented through light-hearted comics.

Fun to look at and easy to use, this unique combination of cookbook and graphic novel is the ideal introduction to cooking Korean cuisine at home. Robin Ha's colorful and humorous one-to three-page comics fully illustrate the steps and ingredients needed to bring more than sixty traditional (and some not-so-traditional) dishes to life.

In these playful but exact recipes, you'll learn how to create everything from easy kimchi (mak kimchi) and soy garlic beef over rice (bulgogi dupbap) to seaweed rice rolls (gimbap) and beyond. Friendly and inviting, Cook Korean is perfect for beginners and seasoned cooks alike.

Each chapter includes personal anecdotes and cultural insights from Ha, providing an intimate entry point for those looking to try their hand at this cuisine.

The first and only cookbook I've read cover to cover
You learn about Korean food and culture through entertaining comics, and the recipes show how you can make many different dishes using the same amount of staples. The illustrations are descriptive and adorable. I especially love the high watercolors that mark each new chapter-the paintings somehow make the dishes look more delicious than beautiful photographs would. Even if you don 't cook, you 'll enjoy the author's stories told through comics, the delicious artwork on each spread, and you'll probably end up cooking some amazing treats from the book!

The recipes are easy to follow and I have had little difficulty finding ...
My family usually hides in fear at the thought of my 'asian terrorism '', but this book may be the holy grail I needed to lure them back to my Western kitchen efforts. The recipes are easy to find and I have had little difficulty in following the majority of the ingredients. The cartoons are fun and descriptive, and none of the recipes are complex enough to require multiple images. The Korean tacos are good and the marinade was equal to anything I had at a Korean BBQ establishment. This cook book is on repeat play '' and I have yet to screw any of these dishes up, which is a major compliment to the author.

   very fun pictures. tasty recipes
Very funny pictures. Recipes for cooking are delicious. Directions are pretty easy to find and a lot of recipes use ingredients that I can follow at safeway. There are only a few that I can get only in a local asian market.

Comic book cookbook makes learning korean recipies easy
The book was published in another publication. I ordered the reviews because I am pleased with the reviews and am happy that they match my experience. Even my children can use great recipes.

   Weird.
This had no pictures of what the recipes looked like. And yeah, it says comic book, so I figured it would be something with drawings too. The way the recipes are inserted into the book looks very confusing to me. I bought it as a gift, so I won 't use it. But here I would not be able to follow an actual recipe without a lot of extra concentrating, as there are drawings all over the place and arrows pointing to different things. Great idea, but not executed.

   Well written and explained.
I have loved Korean cooking ever since I was exposed to it and have spent years learning how to cook it. I prefer Korean cookbooks that show simple home cooking and this one does it in spades. It is not a list of recipes, but covers all the bases and the illustrations make it easy to understand. She also provides a cultural context for the dishes I love. There are substitutions for several hard to obtain items or instructions on how to make them. Some recipes do have items that require access to a Korean market, but if you really want to make them and can not get to a market, there is always online. I would rate this one of my favorite Korean cookbooks along with Dok Suni.

but the recipes are very easy to follow with the illustrations
Had my doubts about the comic book recipe, but the recipes are very easy to follow with the illustrations. After spending numerous years in Korea, the recipes in Korea taste good, as well.

   Vegetarian Korean cooking
Um, I love this cook book just. I used a limited vegetarian cookbook, however the recipes were Korean. While this cookbook is not vegetarian, these dishes are super easy to substitute tofu or other meatless options while still simple and delicious! Can 't wait to cook everything in this book! Disclaimer, I only tried the noodles together with the banchan.

   Great Book and Service
I love this book ''. It has a lot of good recipes and is fun to follow. In my opinion, this is a good introduction to Korean cuisine. My order was lost in shipping, but was quickly replaced by the seller at no cost to me. I would buy again from them.

I never liked cooking Korean food as much as I enjoyed eating ...
I never enjoyed cooking Korean food as much as I liked eating it. However, since my mother came to learn with me, I had to live. I bought a few cookbooks and they were ok. I have substituted white soju for Korean cooking wine. Had to play with some rice vinegar in a recipe, but is mostly a cook book. My mother would be starving. Danke for your hard work.
