Book Overview

The story of Hawaiian cooking, by a two-time Top Chef finalist and Fan Favorite, through 100 recipes that embody the beautiful cross-cultural exchange of the islands.

Even when he was winning accolades and adulation for his cooking, two-time Top Chef finalist Sheldon Simeon decided to drop what he thought he was supposed to cook as a chef. He dedicated himself instead to the local Hawai'i food that feeds his 'ohana--his family and neighbors. With uncomplicated, flavor-forward recipes, he shows us the many cultures that have come to create the cuisine of his beloved home: the native Hawaiian traditions, Japanese influences, Chinese cooking techniques, and dynamic Korean, Portuguese, and Filipino flavors that are closest to his heart.

Through stunning photography, poignant stories, and dishes like wok-fried poke, pork dumplings made with biscuit dough, crispy cauliflower katsu, and charred huli-huli chicken slicked with a sweet-savory butter glaze, Cook Real Hawai'i will bring a true taste of the cookouts, homes, and iconic mom and pop shops of Hawai'i into your kitchen.

We need an errata page. . Things taste good though .
I'm making the cheesecake recipe. It's a blond cake, right? I had no intention of adding sugar, but the tapioca mixture made me think it might be useful. The Web site editor and the newspaper delivery were not available for comment.
A Filipino perspective of Hawaiian food
Many Asian cultures have mixed influences on the food. Many of the books come from a Japanese or Chinese perspective, including Roy Yamaguchi or Sam Choy. This is the first time I've read from a Filipino one. I've enjoyed learning to peel garlic differently and making a tare to glaze my steak, he said. I look forward to a few more journeys, he said.
   Love this book!
His book, "The French Connection," was also a smash hit. It has so many good recipes from Hawai'i, said Barbara Comstock, executive director of the Food Network.
   Amazing And Authentic.
He also raves about the book, "A Really Amazing Book, Great Recipes, Very Well Written, Great Stuff." It's great to be back home, eating good food and drinking good beer, said Dr. Julie Mason, director of the Hawaii Tourism Office. Mahalo.
   Introduction to Hawaiian Cuisine
I bought this cookbook because I always loved the sound of Sheldon Chef's dishes on Top Chef and this cookbook did not disappoint. Now I want to try more of it and have added Hawaii to my list of places to travel.
   AUTHENTIC Local Hawaiian Comfort foods!!
I absolutely love this book. I love the history in the book that helps to explain how all of the different ethnicities of people and the foods that they brought with them, and then blended together to become the local Hawaiian food that we know today, he said. Easy to follow, his recipes are authentic, delicious and the photos are beautiful.
   Very authentic Hawaiian!!!!
My daughter made sushi pan dynamite, and it was amazing, said Gammerman. We found all the ingredients we needed at our local Asian Markets and the results were amazing! Pauley, for example, thanked God for this book. A great deal of soul searching, and I must say, Simeon did not disappoint. We are very pleased and cannot wait to make more! We are very excited!
   TRUE Hawaiian Food!
It's been a long time coming, but I'm thrilled to finally have a true hawaii food cookbook. A good deal, said Dr. Goin. I'm excited to be cooking again, Mrs. Daschle said. All Rights Reserved.
The celebrity chef cookbook to judge all the others by!
This is by far one of the most artistic and authentic books I've seen. We made the Spamubi first because it was quick and easy, and turned out perfect, Raymond said. The only thing I couldn't taste was the ocean air! Thanks for the book, Sheldon, it makes us love you even more!
   Loved loved loved it!
Loved it, said Blair. Got it, read it from front to back, McCartney said. It brought me back to my childhood and I never felt so connected to a cookbook. Mahalo was also the writer of the book. It's beautiful, Tunick said.
