Counting With - Contando Con Frida
Book Overview
A Lil' Libros Bilingual Counting Book
Introduce your little one to the life of one of Mexico's most iconic painters, Frida Kahlo, while teaching them their numbers, 1 to 10, in English and Spanish. Count una casa azul (one blue house), tres flores (three flowers), and cinco retratos (five portraits).
Unable to find bilingual first concept books she could enjoy reading to her baby, Patty Rodriguez came up with the idea behind Lil' Libros.
Patty and her work have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, CN Latino, Latina Magazine, Cosmopolitan, People En Espanol, Cosmo Latina, and American Latino TV, to name a few. She is currently Sr. Producer for On Air With Ryan Seacrest-iHeartMedia, jewelry designer for MALA by Patty Rodriguez, and creator of Manolos And Tacos.
Ariana Stein, a graduate from California State University, Dominguez Hills, has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Ariana spent the first eight years of her professional career in the corporate world. Her life changed with the birth of her baby boy. She immediately realized that bilingualism played a very important role in his future, as well as the future of other children.

Lovely little book!
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I bought this as a present for my daughter, who turns 2 next month. The spiral-bound pages feature numbers and objects to count. The book is a colorful, witty, and sometimes irreverent take on the status quo. It's a great way to introduce your child to the world of Frida and to another language culture.

Learn about art, language, and numbers
Derived From Web , May 12, 2020
I love the fact that there's a culturally significant figure tied to learning numbers, too. Vocabulary is also gaining some new words -- numbers. It feels like a three in one book because you're learning about art, numbers and vocabulary.

Dull
Derived From Web , Feb 1, 2020
I was disappointed in this, Mr. Rule told the judge. It was a present from my son's math teacher who is having a baby and it's boring. The pictures are of random items that nobody has counted. Frida and Monroe have had very little in common, aside from their love of Frida. If I had to do it over again, I'd look for something else.

A must have
Derived From Web , Dec 18, 2019
It has become my daughter's favorite thing in the world. The princess was born in October 2006, two months after her 18th birthday. She also loves to chew on it. Her favorite pages are the portraits. If she is getting into something she shouldn't be doing, all I have to do is open the book and she will stop what she is doing, and crawl to the book with a huge grin. It keeps her entertained and it's great to be able to teach her new words in Spanish. It's a board book, and I purchased it so that it could be chucked, thrown, and chewed on for this little girl. I think the colors are engaging for little ones, too. Great job, said Dr. Chester Floyd, director of NASA's Ames Research Center in California. I can't wait to read more of the Lil Libros books.

Good for Counting, Just Okay for Culture
Derived From Web , Feb 12, 2019
I bought this book to read to my 1 year old, since I am a native Spanish speaker and I am teaching my son as well. It only includes information about Frida until about #5, and then it becomes very generic. It counts leaves on trees, ten toes, all of which can be applied to anyone, not just Frida. Yes, it's a fine book to learn numbers, but I wouldn't pay $10 for that.

Great book, my 14mo enjoys
Derived From Web , Dec 3, 2018
My 14 year old son likes it. The quality of paper and print is really nice, I would say better than average for board books. I get to them the numbers in either language, count with him and talk to him about other cultural things like the Casa Azul, Tudela said. He pays a lot of attention to detail because the graphics and the colors are very attractive, he said. I also have the Cantinflas one from the same publisher and they're both very nice, Mr. Dhaliwal said.

Adorable!
Derived From Web , Aug 3, 2018
I'm very excited to be starting a new language and being in San Diego - it's a must! Even a very small child would learn from it, but it's also detailed enough to be a good lesson in language. Plus, it's a cartoon Frida, so come on! New Haven Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city would welcome "a couple thousand people" a day.

Confusing numbers!
Derived From Web , Jun 24, 2018
All three of the books were written by Atlanta-based Lil Books. The second one is very good to teach, Bruno said. And later we got to Zapata and he taught us the colors. This book has images of some of the numbers, but the drawing of the number makes it complicated and confusing to really teach the numbers. Added to the background, the numbers are not clear at all. It's like going to the eye doctor to make that test to check your vision. Only 2 stars are provided because this book is actually teaching numbers and that is not what the book will do.

FRIDA!!! It's a must!
Derived From Web , Jan 31, 2018
I've had many, many, many, many, great introductions to her. The pictures are precious and it spells her life in small ways. I gave it to my niece who I hope can one day embody the independence and fearlessness of the woman we call Frida. It's great to be back home, said Blair.

Wrapped with loving care...
Derived From Web , Jul 17, 2017
Selling by the seller, but with no buyer present. Frida will try to pass her story along to my grand daughter. This series of books was a hit with both children and adults alike. Thanks to Yogaso, we have a new yoga teacher.
