Book Overview

The year is 993 BC. After years of bloody civil war, Eleazar son of Dodai, one of King David's most elite warriors, wants nothing more than to finally live peacefully in the land. But on the plains near the Great Sea, a terrifying army of Philistines has mobilized to crush the Hebrew tribes once and for all. In the sun-drenched valleys and dark forests of the hill country, Eleazar and his warriors make their stand against Israel's deadliest enemy. The fate of an entire nation rests on the courage of a small band of heroes known as the Mighty Men. In a land torn by conflict, depleted by drought and threatened by treachery, the horrors and heroism of the ancient battlefields come to life. Covenant of War is the second book in the Lion of War series--the intense, gritty, and stylistic portrayal of the Mighty Men of Israel, a rag-tag band of warriors who came to King David in his most desperate hour and fought with him while he claimed the throne he was destined to fill. Their legendary deeds are recorded in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11.

   Action Packed
The author has an imagination that takes you behind the lines of the warriors. I didn't want to put this book down until I knew what David would do next, how he depended on Yahweh, and how he taught others to believe in the midst of war. This is not a book for the faint hearted, but it will bring tears as well as joy from reading, and it is not for the faint hearted. This is a series that I love. Going to the next book for more revelations and exciting reading.

Good read but first one better
The plot is a bit more fighting and lighter than the other ones I have read. A good read, but a typical second book. Personal and historic details were things I would have liked to see more of. It gave a good insight into King David and how he may have lived during those times.

   David Made Bigger Than Life
We often wonder what the lives of biblical characters were like. David is about to be King in a real life setting in the book. He has pitfalls and his sins. We can see his love of God and his devotion to God. The reality of the mud and blood on the battlefield is what we get to see with his life and his soldiers. The way in which the story is told allows us to feel with his soldiers as they think about their wives and families. We have the same problems and feelings. They are better at giving up their lives for their God. This series is great. The first book was Covenant of War. Day of War is the first of its kind. I' ve been told the third will be out in March. I' ve heard Cliff Graham speak. He has a lot to say to men and Christians. His books are well written.

   Awesome series!
Even though this is a guy story to me, I have absolutely loved this series and recommend it to many. There aren't many books that I give 5 stars for. It made me rethink David's and his Might Men's lives-- what we aren't told in so many words but what can be inferred. I like books that do that. It isn't for people who don't like to read about war. There is so much more to the story, even though some scenes are graphic.

King David's Mighty Men Brought to Life.
There is a new thought process for me when it comes to the people of the Old Testament. He makes them into flesh and blood people who sweat, bleed, get hungry, and love deeply. I can't recommend this book to everyone, but I can recommend it to men who love God. The book makes King David's men come to life. I am sorry that it's over, but I wanted to put it down. This book is not for people who have never studied the Old Testament. I would warn nit pickers that this is fiction. Mr. Graham says this. If you are a man of God, this book is for you.

   Day of War
The book's characters have challenged me by their faith, courage, conviction, and commitment. It is a book that will appeal to any woman who is a prayer warrior, or who wants to understand the culture of ancient Israel better. The historical characters in this book will keep you coming back for more. The battle scenes are violent, but these men are fighting wars against impossible odds, and they run to the battles they face. We need more men and women who will fight for what we believe. The story of David and his men is told by a man who is brave, gifted and uncompromising. I'm looking forward to reading all of the books in the Lion of War Series.

   Love it.
I love this book. The first book of the series is very well written and follows the biblical story as best it can, but adds some epic details in the void. It is highly recommendable to read.
