Book Overview

ANTHROPOLOGY / SHAMANISM A deft balance of Western psychology and native wisdom, novelistic drive, and touchingly human characters. --San Francisco Chronicle The stuff of anthropological bestsellers. . . . A flight of serious fancy, confounding our categories of fiction and nonfiction. --New York Times Book Review A vital, well‑written, and exciting tale of one man's exploits in the real real world, as he seeks a reunion with Nature, the unconscious, the powers of healing, and the naked facts of life and death. --San Diego Tribune Dance of the Four Winds recounts the adventures of the American psychologist Alberto Villoldo as he journeys to Peru to explore the visionary ceremonies of the native shamans. Here Quechua masters use the jungle plant ayahuasca to further their spiritual progress along the four paths of the Medicine Wheel. Entering a magical realm of enigmatic sorcerers and powerful animal totems, Villoldo confronts the hidden powers of his own mind as he unlocks the secrets of the human psyche. ALBERTO VILOLDO, Ph.D., is also the author of Island of the Sun, Millennium, Healing States, and Realms of Healing. Erik Jendresen is a playwright and screenwriter.

   Wonderful book, psychological and spiritual!
A great read combines psychology and spirituality. This is a great book to start with if you haven't already read one by Villoldo. I have read Power Up Your Brain before, and it's great that this book begins with him as a young college graduate embarking on an adventure through Peru, and continues over a few years. Island of the Sun is a sequel to this one and will be read next. It's a great read with great characters and it makes you want to go there yourself. You can wander into a world of mysticism and shamanism with the help of Villoldo. Definitely recommend.

   Astounding Story
The re- telling of Villoldo's discovery of the gifts of the Medicine Wheel is amazing. The facts included in the story are the real journey of the man, who is trying to become a shaman. Those who seek the Shaman's path through the Incan Medicine Wheel are encouraged by the challenges he faced and the lessons he learned. Be careful. Upon completion of the book, you can buy a one- way ticket toPeru. From cover to cover it was inspiring.

Great book - well done - easy read
The Storytelling style in which Villoldo's wisdom is shared appealed to Dance of the Four Winds. The easy prose style serves up smaller gems of shamanistic experience. It is more accessible than others, like Shaman. The Storytelling style will help these lessons stick more easily and lend themselves to being called on when needed more reliably. Awesome! Well done.

Good choice if you have an interest in Shamanism
When I moved a few years ago, I lost a book I had read when it was first published, like Island in the Sun. I found that this type of book can't be absorbed in one reading, so I wanted to read it again.

A shaman's odyssey is the same book on the inside as well as the outside. I am not happy about wasting money. What is going on?
