Book Overview

As the sun sets on the time of the dinosaurs, a new world is left in its wake. . . .

Dusk

He alone can fly and see in the dark, in a colony where being different means being shunned--or worse. As the leader's son, he is protected, but does his future lie among his kin?

Carnassial

He has the true instincts of a predator, and he is determined that his kind will not only survive but will dominate the world of beasts.

From the author of the internationally acclaimed Silverwing trilogy comes an extraordinary adventure set 65 million years ago. Kenneth Oppel, winner of a Michael L. Printz Honor for Airborn, has crafted a breathtaking animal tale that reaches out to the human in all of us.

   Darkwing
My son enjoyed this book. He had read the rest of the series and checked this one out of the library, but forgot it. We used it to replace the missing library book after he read it.

   Fantastical, nostalgic
When I was younger, I loved reading the Silverwing series. I ordered all of the books in the series when I was 19 years old. It was a pleasant surprise to see this book added. I enjoyed learning about some of the strange animals that lived in the past. The extinction of the dinosaurs was worked on by Oppel, and he took a very original bend. It was very refreshing. I recommend it to others because I tried to get my younger brother to read it.

... old son and my 10 1/2 year old daughter love the original series
My 14 year old son and my 10 year old daughter love the original series and this prequel is great as well. The whole series is recommended.

As an adult the loves animal fantasy
This one is one of my favorite animal fantasy stories. The book was so creative that it was set in this era with the early mammals and dinosaurs. The characters have differing beliefs and personality. The early mammals appeared in the book and I liked learning about them. There is no proof that this is the way bats learn to fly, but the theory is as good as any. I highly recommend this to children and adults who love animals.

   Awesome
I loved this book. It does not follow Shade but is a fun addition to the series. I wasn't left wanting more. Mr. Oppel should keep the bat saga going. He has a way of making the world come to life.

The story was captured by every character. Dusk was an amazing character. He didn't want to be rejected. This entire series is wonderful.

   Please keep writing silverwing books,
This book is very good. I found a good book. It's as good as wings of fire. I would love to have more books about the silverwing colony, but I would also like to know what happens togriffin when he grows up, will he be like Shade? Or will he be different. Please continue! You are the best and never stop doing what you do best. You do it the best! It is.

   READ IT!!!!
The book is great! I thought the concept might be weird, but I was happy that it wasn't. It was refreshing that the overall concept was one I had not seen before. There is enough detail in this book to set the scene, but not so much that you will getbogged down in the details.
