Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Three years ago, the Joker took everything from Barbara Gordon. Now he wants more. Returning to Gotham City after a long absence, the Clown Prince of Crime is out to free Batman from his closest allies-his family. He targets Batgirl, putting Barbara face-to-face with her worst nightmare: the man who put her in a wheelchair.

But the attack on her and her fellow Bat-heroes is only the beginning of Batgirl's family problems. Her mother - newly returned after more than a decade of estrangement - has been captured. Her father has been poisoned. And her brother, psychopathic Arkham Asylum escapee, may actually be working with the Joker. Can Batgirl save the lives of the people she is closest to from the two maniacs who have hurt her most?

BATGIRL: DEATH OF THE FAMILY is a searing tale of the blood ties that bind, from writers Gail Simone (SECRET SIX) and Ray Fawkes (CONSTANTINE) and artists Daniel Sampere (TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA) and Ed Benes (BIRDS OF PREY). Collects BATGIRL #14-19, BATGIRL ANUAL #1 and BATMAN #17.

First graphic novel series I bought and love it.
Batgirl is a great series from the New 52. I am new to comic books, so I can not compare it with previous models. I started reading this series about 6 months ago, when my husband got me into comic stories. I read a graphic novel by Superman for Tomorrow, which stands alone because I was familiar with him. When I went to the store, I did not realize that so many different titles were being made. She is like Batman's dark self-loved. The death of the family storyline is well written and brings in EVERYONE from the DC part of Gotham City. And after starting this series, which I whipped through the first 3 volumes of the novels, I added her to my pull list at the comic book store. It also got me into the Nightwing series.

   Amazing!
I enjoyed this series so far, but Vol 3 was just amazing the story of how she gets involved with the Joker in the Death of the Family Arc. It leaves you wanting more and the artwork in this volume was even better than the first two by Daniel Sampere, I'm a fan now.

   Pretty good
This is actually the first time I read Batgirl and it wasn't too bad. Very nice to see this after the death of Batman Vol.3 in the family, to read how Batgirl was taken. Do not read this before Batman Vol.3, because you might ruin the story. The other little stories here were also entertaining. I probably won 't get any more of Batgirl, because I am not a huge fan of character, but this was a pretty good read.

In the new 52, Batgirl is one of the best comics to buy and one of the few I actually come out in this ridiculously priced format in the comics, just because I like the series and want the cover art. This crossover is pretty good, except for the fact that the Joker is just a guy and has been used over and needs to be put down for good.
