   Felt very surface-level
I would not spend time on this. I recently read Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents '' and blows this book out of the water as far as a helpful resource. Not usually write negative reviews, but overall pretty disappointed.

3
   Nothing New
I have read a few on this topic and is the least helpful so far. The author spends far too much time talking about her relationship with her own mother and not enough time offering practical solutions for others.

2
   Derivative
This book borrows extensively from other writers and weaves a narrative derived from those more expert sources. It is short and will give you a sense of what you need without all of the science and data that you might want to verify the author's advice and conclusions. If bromides and brevity are exactly what you want, this is your book.

1
   Racist much?
According to the author in the 35 pages, European-Americans do not suffer with this, apparently only black and brown people deal with it. Not even scientifically plausible! WE BOUGHT THIS BOOK, 10 THUMBS DOWN!

1
   Horrible book
Not all mother - daughter strained relationships are because of the mother's bad attitude!

5
It's time to stand up for yourself
It gives you insight and strategies for how your thinking isn 't helping you to show up as the woman you want to be. I love the prompts to do something to think about, something to journal about, and something to practice.

2
   Not informative
I was excited about this book and hoping to understand the good relationship between my mother and mine and how to set up rough boundaries. The author had some good ideas, but then didn 't explain or give usable advice for these ideas. There were typos and mistakes and felt unprofessional just. I wish I had read the negative reviews, the author is a life coach, not therapists. Good for her sharing her story and journey, but the book was very disappointing and didn 't offer much help at all.

Good for people who are just starting their healing journey
I like the journaling part and the breaking into feelings that you can control. If you have read many books on this topic, however, this is not the book for you. This book might be helpful for someone who is just realizing their relationship needs help or doubting if the upbringing was normal. I feel it didn 't flow well and kinda was all over from examples, tips, explaining things, etc. It also felt a little redundant.

   Never too old.
I am a 64 year old grandmother who finally realizeds a life time of stuffing my anger has caught me. I blew up in a fit of rage at a family reunion and after reading this book I realized that I carried my mother's codependency into my life's journey. I do not hate my mother, but I am ready to move past her programming. Happy reading!

to honor what I love and value
This book is very helpful in giving insight into how to deal with a difficult mother, but I found that the guidelines and suggestions apply also to other difficult relationships in your life, as well. Karen addresses how to create, articulate, and maintain flawless boundaries, which is a key element in being able to honor your true self... to be authentic... to experience peace in your life. I adore the examples Karen provides of how to separate from a difficult relationship emotionally without experiencing shame and guilt. I am so grateful that I have chosen to establish healthy boundaries for myself... to honor what I love and value... and in doing so my life is filled with much joy, peace and contentment.
