   Just yes!
The only compliments singing for this book can not be enough! I choose to coach my 5 year old and after making our way through math workbooks, i found I was not sure how to teach when he would be stuck. I call the methodology of this book intuitive. To say... this is how I communicate math in my head, a process that naturally developed with the aid of teachers, but I had no idea how to say what was going on in my head to my five-year-old. It is this! My brain is on paper! Hahaha, I think. However, we are both enjoying the process. My son will break into new concepts that might appear overwhelming at first, but the language, visuals, and process of each section and sub-section helps him to get ahhh-ha! Castle Moments builds his confidence and his love of learning. We are now able to take greater advantage of additional workbooks as an additional practice to teaching what Danica has taught us. What '' is the best known variety of hotels.

What is up with this mouse?
We are an extremely math-positive household and I don 't really like the use of the mouse that does not like math very begrudgingly. I would have preferred a more positive presentation -- say, the character Danica and a confused but enthusiastic mouse or another creature. I think the math presentation is solid and the various strategies for addition and subtraction are excellent in general, but I am not convinced that this book will be good for my child's love of math when it is all said and done. As such, I would be reluctant to recommend this book for children whose attitudes about math are still developing.

   Incredible
He fell through the cracks, was not given the time, attnetion or help his IEP and legally required the school to provide. I read it to him first and he was able to pin point EXACTLY where he fell behind and we took it from there. The story and Mr. Mouse are engaging and my son's favorite part is hearing the story that goes with it. I now homeschool and this has become an invaluable resource on the shelf. This is a very good idea.

   Great for overwhelmed students
This book focuses less on the actual numbers and more on understanding the process. Kids relate to that mouse and are more willing to give the lesson a chance when the mouse comes in.

Amazing Math book for my 1st Grader!!!
My 6 year old daughter loves this book! It is an amazing introduction to mathematic fundamentals of addition and subtraction. The book stars a little white mouse, who loves my daugter! He is first against learning maths, and my wife and I do a squirting voice for his parts. My daughter talks back to him, reassuring him that math isn 't that bad ; she gets into it its hilarious ''. I never seen her this involved in a educational book before. It is so great! Thank you Danica McKellar for helping my daughter not only understand, but also enjoy math!

Every Parent and Teacher Needs This Book
If you have a child in the lower grades or teach the lower grades, you NEED this book! My eight-year-old daughter absolutely loves this book and wants to read it at bedtime. I have taught for 21 years and am now home schooling my own children. If it is mathematically correct, it is the best thing for children. And this book gives the BEST foundation for mathematical children in understanding young concepts. Parents who don 't understand this new math will benefit greatly from this book, as the author clearly explains what we see now in math books and why it is helpful for children. In my experience, students who have taught math in this way are more creative with math, more flexible with numbers and their math fluency is much better. I highly recommend '' this book!

   Eye opener!!
I was taught math back in the 70s and this new stuff blew my mind. It is educational, engaging and very enlightening. When I finish this project, I plan to share it with my grandson. I look forward to seeing more books by McKellar Math!

   Great! Helpful for reluctant learners.
As a homeschooling mom, a math teacher and math tutor, I have met a lot of students who need a little different explanation for even simple math, like addition and subtraction. I have experienced that frustration with early math can really affect their overall math experience, so that early success is so important. The games and activities are really fun and can be used at random times so that you can show how to incorporate math in daily life. And this book would be so much fun for those who love maths. I loved learning to incorporate math, wherever I could. It is a great book! I highly recommend ''.

Fun and Engaging Ways to Learn Math
From Carrie, 1st Grade Teacher in Arlington, VA, Some math concepts are easier to understand than others for students. Danica McKellar has fun and creative ideas to help make math skills more relatable and understandable for first and second graders to comprehend in her book, Do Not Open This Math Book. For example, when introducing fact families in the class, students understood the idea of putting sandwiches together and breaking them apart, which helped them better understand fact families. I look forward to using this book in my first grade class for future lessons!

A great find for parents, educators, and kiddos.
As a third teacher, I can say that this book is absolutely amazing! It is EXACTLY how I teach addition and subtraction to my third graders, but Danica makes it visually appealing with fun pictures, cute stories and games that help me practice the skills. A must have for parents, teachers and kiddos a must have. Especially if you are a parent looking to understand new math or have a kiddo that just seems to be understanding addition and subtraction. I plan to use it from beginning to end with my math tutoring groups. I truly hope Danica writes more because I would love to use one about multiplication and division with my students.
