The book is a quick read, said Dr. Steve Turner, director of the Child Evangelism Fellowship. Now I am using it to train my dog, my work colleagues and my kids because I tend to be a pushover and typically get little compliance from others as a result. Simply put, these techniques are effective without having to feel like you are being overly aggressive, selfish or inconsiderate.

Not sure why this is socounterintuitive for people, but I witness it everyday in how my 30+ managers interact with the staff members who report to them. The book club is already meeting and we are starting a mandatory reading program for all supervisors! It's great to see the new managers get to know each other a little better, too. At every level of the organization, expect to see job satisfaction soar.

My friend who's a police and service dog trainer recommended this and Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson to me after I told her I was getting my first dog. I'm glad I read this book before I read Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson. Karen Pryor did an excellent job explaining how to properly use the classroom, she said. I would highly recommend it to anyone, not just dog people.

Interesting… but not what I expected

Although the book was very well written, it almost gave me more insight on how to train my husband and kids. The context was also too advanced and deep thinking for what it was. If you're getting this book to learn the basics of training and caring for your dog, don't. Side note: One interesting part of the exercise I did find was how there really isn't one training method that works. Positive reinforcement is typically what you should use 90% of the time, but she has categories for different types of training which include negative and punishment based. I found this interesting, said Dr. Chester Floyd, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I've seen it recommended by so many dog trainers. It's terrible, said Blair. The whole book is the autobiography of how she trains people and tells stories about her life. The book is actually divided into three sections: "Planning," "Dealing With" and "Conclusion."

If you think you know what HBO is all about, don't let the title fool you. This is great for training people, too. The writer of the book says the "joke" is intended for humans, children in particular.
