Book Overview

The fifth adventure in the enormously popular Dory Fantasmagory series takes on the tried-and-true theme of childhood friendships, and turns it on its head, Dory-style.

When her big sister Violet has friend trouble at school, Dory tries to come to her rescue. But Dory's active imagination takes over, and she is sure that Violet's lost treasure (a friendship bracelet) has something to do with pirates. In search of the treasure, Dory meets up with a real pirate crew and finds that a pirate's life is harder than she thought. At sea, Dory longs for her imaginary friend Mary. But Mary has gone off with an exciting new friend of her own and Dory is crushed with jealousy. Just when things can't get any worse, Dory's old enemy, Mrs. Gobble Gracker shows up and Dory's ocean adventure takes a surprising turn.

There's a ton of treasure in Dory's fifth adventure as Dory mixes in pirates, pals (real and make-believe), and her own imagination into one wild and wet free-for-all.

   Funny and easy reads
Both my boys and I have huge collections of Dory books. We have read all five books and we hope there will be more eventually.

   The stories are creative BUT . . . . . .
The author is very creative, Raymond said. There are some great stories told here, and there is a lot of creativity that went into them. However, the two have grown apart and are not nice to each other. The kids lie a lot, Taylor said. I think it would be appropriate for older kids, perhaps over 8 or so, he said.

Very funny, motivates a reluctant reader at the 2nd grade level
The two roommates end up laughing a lot. It's a good chapter book for a reluctant reader. It's not too hard and the story keeps her interested, she said. A little easier to read than the first book.

   Different then the other four.
We thoroughly and deeply love the four other books, too. This feels like it was written by a different person. The zany narrative that is so Dory has gone missing, Mr. Nemo says. Instead of the goofy and imaginative meanderings of a child's imagination, the writer's story is clunky and linear. We miss her unique language and world. It's just that the ride is not the same.

   Love it
I've read all the books, and I'm in love with them all. I absolutely love the Minions, the cutest little guys ever, said Blair. I wish the author had more time to pen.

What’s better than listening to your child laugh while reading?
I'm a huge Disney fan, and the entire "Finding Nemo" series stands in a class by itself. She read this one in a day and giggled the entire time. And she will often pull a Dory off the book shelf to reread her favorite parts. Even if your child is too young to enjoy them, they will enjoy them too.

   So entertaining
This is a great addition to the Dory series. My son absolutely loves them, said Jennette. We heard about the series on Love Kids Place when Abby Hamlin did an interview in 2017," Melissa said. We're delighted with the results, Bruno said. Highly rated. It takes us around 40 minutes to read them out loud. The French word for bath is "butt."

   Love this series
This is one of my kids' favorite shows. It has pictures of all the kids' favourite things, and I was able to keep them occupied during reading time. The writer of the story line quips: "There's just too many good jokes.
