Book Overview

From Dav Pilkey, creator of the New York Times bestselling Dog Man and Captain Underpants series, comes Dragon, the heartwarming hero adored by Dav's youngest readers

Pick a book. Grow a Reader This series is part of Scholastic's early reader line, Acorn, aimed at children who are learning to read. With easy-to-read text, a short-story format, plenty of humor, and full-color artwork on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and fluency. Acorn books plant a love of reading and help readers grow When Dragon finds a stray cat in his yard, he brings it inside to escape the cold. He likes living with his new feline friend, but Dragon soon realizes that he doesn't know how to take care of it. He doesn't know how to train the cat, what to feed the cat, and what to do about all the yellow puddles the cat leaves behind Using his trademark humor and heart, Dav Pilkey illustrates the highs and lows of having a new pet in this tender story about care and responsibility. This Acorn edition contains brand-new bonus content, including story prompts and how-to-draw pages

Cute Dragon series for young readers.
A great choice for fans of the toy dragon. A colorful collection of pictures by Frank Stella. A good choice for starting a chapter book. Even for the 'young at heart,' sitting and reading with a child can be enjoyable, Mr. Rule told the judge.

   Perfect book for 1st graders
My son absolutely loves that he can independently read this book and the story is very kind and sweet with a few lighthearted jokes throughout. Many of the illustrations are colorful and help kids understand the concepts of time and place. The whole series is perfect for beginning readers.

   Wasted Money
The whole point of a children's book is to have endless pictures, right? The kid should have known. This was a book for ages 1-3. I am a 10 year old and this is just too disturbing. More pictures, less words, and the bigger my disappointment grew and grew.

   Perfect easy reader
Even adults can laugh at the absurdity of the plot. Great book, and my kids were intrigued enough to keep reading. Our kids are just trying to get them to read and cultivate a love for learning, Mrs. Rule told the judge. It was also noted that this one hit both of those marks.

The Humor in this Book Encourages Young Folk to Read!
My 7 year old grandson absolutely loved it. It's great to see the work of the artists again. After reading it to me, he couldn't wait to read it to his mother. Now he wants to read the other two books, too. A book that encourages more reading is a wonderful thing. This book is probably best for those entering 2nd grade or those who have completed the first.

Wow! What a great Chapter Book For my 6 Year Old!
We thoroughly enjoyed reading this chapter book. It's the perfect mix of anticipation, wit, and it challenges her and strengthens her reading skills, too. Thanks for the book. I look forward to more from this series, he said.

   Pets don’t come with instructions
This book shows kids that pets come with responsibility and you need the knowledge to know how to properly care for them. It was a present from my Grandson for Christmas. It has all the makings of a good story, with a good cast of characters, including the dragon and cat.

   Great intro into chapter books
This is a great book for readers who are just beginning to get into chapter books. The illustrations are great and the story is very funny, Morgenthau said.

   Funny for kids AND adults
My 1st grader absolutely loves the books. I like that they are a bit of a challenging read for her, but she can still read a lot of it. She has a passion for reading chapter books. A great skill and confidence building book while also being entertaining and funny for kids and parents, Mr. Cowger writes.

   Book Review
I really enjoyed this book, Morgenthau said. I have not read the entire series, and I have not reviewed it, Scholastic said. He hears a cat meow outside his door, and flies off to Lemur's cave. He tries to get it to come in time and time again, but it just sits there. Eventually he picks it up and takes it to his house. He has other issues, including a lack of knowledge about how to properly care for a cat. The writer of the book, Paul LiCalsi, uses an east to understand manner of writing.
