With magical animals, science, mystery, and adventure -- the brand new series Zoey and Sassafras has something for everyone Easy-to-read language and illustrations on nearly every page make this series perfect for a wide range of ages.

In the first book of this series, Zoey discovers a glowing photo and learns an amazing secret. Injured magical animals come to their backyard barn for help When a sick baby dragon appears, it's up to Zoey and Sassafras to figure out what's wrong. Will they be able to help little Marshmallow before it's too late?

Each story in the Zoey and Sassafras series features a new magical animal with a problem that must be solved using science. There isn't a set formula for each book; Zoey sometimes needs to run experiments, while other times she needs to investigate a mystery, and yet other times she needs to do research. Zoey models how to keep a science journal through her handwritten entries in each story. Each story is complete with a glossary of the kid-friendly definitions for scientific terms used. The series highlights child-led inquiry science and the topics covered align with both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

Great interesting and educational book, part of a 7 book wonderful series. Need more like this!
Without wanting more than a nice book to read over to my grandkids, I grabbed the Zoey and Sassafras series, cute stories about a girl and her cat. The content has been interesting enough to engage a boy and girl of about 4 years old and the 10 year old big boy. What I found in these books is a lot more, McClelland said. The other series books are about a little girl of color, in training about the scientific method,'' by her MOM, a scientist and a dad who has a scientific bent but not the magic. I was impressed with the customer service. This is not indoctrination, the academy said.
Made my kid LOVE reading instead of hate it!
She preferred to read this independently than to have me read our chapter book at bedtime, which is a huge milestone! Even with the help of her reading level, Spelling still needs a lot of help. I was hoping she would be inspired to read more to in turn help her spelling, and this book was the ticket! She also enjoys the stories of magic and science. I'm about to order the next book.
   Love it
This little girl is interested in science, and discovers she has the power of seeing magical animals, just like her successful scientist mother. She has a dear kitty friend, and my kids are cat-obsessed. In the second part of the series, Zoey heals a magical dragon and teaches about how to conduct science experiments along the way.
   I liked the book
The book was my 6 year old's favourite. We're looking forward to the next one, Tunick said. Great for kids to learn about science.
It was a great story told with a black girl as the main character. I used this for my third grade black girl book club and it was a great read with science added in.
   Great book
The book is being sold at a good pace, said Barbara Fields, executive director of marketing for Scholastic. He also told me that his third grade teacher loved the book. Thanks for the support.
   Great adventure story!
Like the book, we liked the plot, the story line, the magic and adventure. What a cute idea, my girls said. We're thrilled to be working with Simon and DB again to bring the series to life.
   Science and magic meet
This is a good read for kids in the 1st to 2nd grade. It throws you right into the world of Zoey, a girl who loves science and it's method. She also comes to find out that she can see and even consult with magic creatures, and that she can become a vet of these animals. In "The Princess Bride," Zoey goes through helping her first magical creature. She uses animals' journals and her background knowledge to nurse the hybrid back to health. It's a good book, but I can see losing its magic by the time a student is in 3-4th grade.
Great read aloud for a 1st grade class.
I'm really excited about how Zoey used the scientific method to do experiments with her dragon. The program also teaches the children to ask a question, which is a good introduction to math. What's more, creating an experiment and making a conclusion?
Great book for backing science but having fun with fantasy.
I bought this book for my kids to read with their summer camp teachers. It was so hard because they kept begging for 'just one more chapter!, so I couldn't make the book. It was great to follow along with the girls on the adventure, and it was great to keep with our science theme. The book helped me introduce them to the scientific method, Raymond said. Several kids were hooked on the series by the time camp was over, and my own daughter asked to get the rest and keep reading them at home.
