   Public libraries offer new immigrants a place to dream.
The book was purchased for my 5 year old granddaughter. It's a beautiful story of a woman and her baby migrating to the United States, said Nadim Hajdu, executive director of the UN refugee agency. The woman and child, for example, find the value of public libraries and getting a card.

   Terrible portrayal of immigrants
The message of this book is clear immigrants are hapless and inferior until they discover wonderful white libraries, he said. Immigrants don't come to this country with dreams of their own until they are enlightened, he said. And don't get me going about the cops running down the mother and her child.

   Beautiful Words and Images
After reading, Esperanza, by Pam Ryan, I asked one of my students to read the rest of the book. The students were excited to see their classmate display her ever-improving reading skills. The class helped students compare and contrast immigrant experiences at public libraries and at home. The book allows students to make personal connections with the story as well as express appreciation for the rich narrative shared by Yuyi Morales. A beautiful book with an exceptional author connection at the end of the book. As a teacher, there are tons of extension lessons I can do year after year, including figurative language activities, identifying and contrasting ideas, and creating books of self discovery and blossoming resilience.

   A terrific, intimate story of a mother and her son who immigrated to the United States.
A picture book, "The Bodyguard" by James Frey is also a bestseller. I love the author's work, and the illustrations are beautiful and engaging. Her story is unique and appealing, and McCann's book is also highly recommended. I work in libraries and I'm very appreciative of her love of libraries and reading, Raymond said. This book is amazing not only for its content but the images in every page allow the book to come alive, Gaiman said. OMG! What a great day! If you don't have a copy of this in your home, you should have it. I moved to the US when I married Yuyi and his journey seriously touched home with me. She is an amazing artist and writer, Raymond said. This book is truly inspirational.

I have read many, many, many, amazing books. It's beautiful, rich, colorful, and interesting, he said.    Lots of figurative language
It opened up a great discussion with my kindergarteners about immigration and those trying to make a better life for their families, Mrs. Caramore said. I gave it 3 stars because it took me some time to get through because I had to stop a lot and explain what the author meant. If this was read to a few second graders it would be a five star rating.

   Dreamers
The illustrations, by Pauley, are truly exceptional. I love the contrast of the bright colors with the darker tones. The colors of the mother's skirt, the unique items that adore the pages, and the creatures that make their appearance, all make you stop and stare at the pages a little longer. In a new land, a woman and her child become immigrants. Confused and unable to communicate in this new world, the woman does the best she can yet she makes many mistakes. In a library, two kids wander into a world of open books. The writer, Sandra Day O'Connor, also includes her own personal story in the back of the book. Yuyi and her son Kelly left Mexico City for the United States in 1994. After reading her story, I needed to reread her picture book. Yuyi also includes a long list of books that she says inspired her to become a writer.
