Book Overview

Anne Lamott is my Oprah. -Chicago Tribune

From the bestselling author of Help, Thanks, Wow comes an inspiring guide to restoring hope and joy in our lives.

In Dusk, Night, Dawn, Anne Lamott explores the tough questions that many of us grapple with. How can we recapture the confidence we once had as we stumble through the dark times that seem increasingly bleak? As bad newspiles up--from climate crises to daily assaults on civility--how can we cope? Where, she asks, do we start to get our world and joy and hope and our faith in life itself back . . . with our sore feet, hearing loss, stiff fingers, poor digestion, stunned minds, broken hearts?

We begin, Lamott says, by accepting our flaws and embracing our humanity.

Drawing from her own experiences, Lamott shows us the intimate and human ways we can adopt to move through life's dark places and toward the light of hope that still burns ahead for all of us.

As she does in Help, Thanks, Wow and her other bestselling books, Lamott explores the thorny issues of life and faith by breaking them down into manageable, human-sized questions for readers to ponder, in the process showing us how we can amplify life's small moments of joy by staying open to love and connection. As Lamott notes in Dusk, Night, Dawn, I got Medicare three days before I Read More chevron_right

   Yikes
She told the inquiry that Anne Lamott was becoming more fearful, neurotic and delusional. Overall, I've read all her non-fiction, and most was very interesting, even edifying at times. And it seems as if she assumes all her readers are anxious and crazed as she is, at least in this book of essays. There were some good stuff, but she seems to have changed her ways of thinking. Sometimes, she seems to wander, and the conclusion doesn't exactly follow the lead up. She uses that term because we're, we're, when she should say I'm or mine. The writer, Sandra Day O'Connor, is actually trying to drag the reader into her severe mental disorder. Mr. Daschle said: "I suspect she's trying to identify with the reader, but it doesn't come out that way."

   Loved it.
Anne Lamont is a master of the pen. One word at a time, I'm guessing.

   Bless them. Change me.
Anne Hathaway is said to be in stable condition at the time of this interview. In "Bless Me," Pauley writes, "I have added, "and you can find more." Change Me!

   Few pearls for the read
Anne Lamott is a French actress who played a scheming English aristocrat's wife. It's usually a sign that you are getting ready to pan the book. He added: "I think it's great to be back home." Several of the highlighted areas cause me to reread and tell others, but it's just too many to my liking. I'm not a writer, nor a critic. As Christian believers, we are asked to “witness” what our thoughts and feelings are. Even though she's a bit more confrontational, I really like that. However, she frequently takes me so deep in her mind that I get lost and frequently ask myself, what was the original question? The book has already been posted on Facebook, saving you money and reading the post.

   Very inspirational.
The poignancy of Anne Lamott's observations of life and love are so well-known. He reassures us that we are in good hands with God's grace.

I am waiting for her next book, Simon says. This writer is very good at what he does. Someday, I hope to meet her face to face.

It is Time to Find Another Spiritual Writer
If it were not for the pearls of wisdom buried within the author's flights of self-indulgence, the book would rate a 2. It is time to move on.

   Wonderful!
Another brilliant book, this one by my very favorite author. Every book she has written, should be required reading.

Anne is my safe place, she soothes my soul
Beckham said: "I've read everything Anne has ever written and look forward to her next. She's a comforting voice and long-distance friend no matter what my circumstances are. She has also passed her books down to my daughters, who are now big fans. Those are the three defining words that define humor: grace, love, hope. And I can't quick Anne, Christina said in the video.

   Box was all dry
Box was dry and book was also. Previous reviews of this book by Dr. Goin had led me to believe this box and book would not be dry. My husband enjoys books that aren't wet, so I think he'll really like this one, too, said Blair. It's just that we don't know what to do with the dry box. Added water to the box, and now couldn't be happier with my purchase!
