I was fortunate to be one of Hogarth's many students when he taught figure drawing in Los Angeles. He was a remarkable teacher and his drawing style and teaching style is certainly dynamic. While you may find Hogarth's comic book roots not according to your taste, don 't deprive yourself of his books. He has much to offer and many details about the figure that are very valuable. My drawing has been influenced and improved forever because of what he taught me in class and from his books. Just because you absorb so much from his books, it does not follow that you will also adopt his comic book style. From him and many other artists'works learn and consider yourself well-rounded!

Great book.

The book is very cool. It isn't one of those drawing books that tell you what line-by-line to do, so don 't expect that. This book will show you and tell you what to do, it will just walk you through it. You should probably be comfortable drawing and decent drawing the figure before buying this book.

This is one of his best. I recommend ALL of his books

Burne Hogarth knows as much about Dynamic Perspective as a small town of Burne. One of his best-known films is this. I highly recommend all his books, simply because he's THAT good! The price was reasonable. The delivery was expedient.

great way to learn figure drawing
Derived From Web , Jun 2, 2022
If you are serious about becoming a better artist and have the patience to carefully study various parts of the human figure, this book will greatly help you. As several people mentioned, this book does not contain a completely realistic anatomy. But this book will help you understand the basic shapes of the muscles and the body. It will also help you understand how these shapes change when shortening. If you are dedicated enough, you will be able to draw a great number of figures from your imagination at the end of studying this book. I would advise buyers not to use this book as their only reference for figure drawing. Either you should find from real life or draw a book that contains various body types.

Figure Drawing Book
Derived From Web , Jun 2, 2022
It focuses mostly on the male figure seen on the cover. The figure used throughout the book is very muscular, so expect the same figure to appear on every page. This book shows you other examples of the foot, hand, head, chest and perfect body parts. Additions to your art book collection : you will not regret this purchase. I am a human major in Fine Arts at College and I use this book to refer to the figure in action, the drawings show the figure relaxed, flexing, and jumping around. Very detailed and great depiction of male anatomy.

secrets of figure drawing from imagination revealed
Derived From Web , Jun 2, 2022
This is a must-buy book for artists, animators - comics - book artists or enthusiasts of figure drawing who dreamed of drawing human figures and short human figures in action from memory imagination. This book does not contain human anatomy ; the author uses his own verson of realistic anatomy to explain his methods and principles. These must be taken only as tools and not as rules. But if you practiced from this book hard enough, you will find that your life is miles further than when you started, and I also recommend the other books by Burne Hoarth, dynamic anatomy, dynamic hands, dynamic light and shade, and dynamic wrinkles and drapery. Only one word of caution, it is very easy to get influenced by burne hogarths'work.

I was told to like it, and wanted to for a long time...
Derived From Web , Jun 2, 2022
Probably this review won 't weigh anything, but I feel like I have to change. As a long time amateur, but relatively good artist, I had Dynamic figure drawing on my shelf for many years. Occasionally, I would draw it down, usually in a desire to reference something. I also tried to start studying it more intensively in my drawing life. But something never really stopped me, and I never used it. As time grew and my own skill, and I went to medical school and studied anatomy, I opened it less and less often. I realized that Hogarth's figures are creepy and mutated to me. Even from a superhero - comic perspective, I could only see with his techniques to draw villains who had been subjected to Gamma rays. There is almost no beauty in his figures, and his joints look like they suffer from gout. Not for me, but good fortune to all who seek to improve their skills!

Don't let the cover art fool you
Derived From Web , Oct 26, 2020
The new cover art must be carefully - not let the old one fool you. This is the same exact book as the first issue with the blue cover art. I have this one already. After returning, the old house has been rebuilt.

Old-School and Perfect
Derived From Web , Apr 26, 2020
Mr. Hogarth became my mentor through his books as I learned to teach and inspire the human being in motion, and his books still teach and inspire today! My daughter now uses his books to help her with techniques in drawing people, clothing, etc., as they are in nature in motion. The book arrived in perfect condition.
