Book Overview

Here is a collection of 32 simple projects for novice origami hobbyists -- clearly illustrated and with easy-to-follow instructions that even beginning papercrafters can follow with success. Subjects range from an ultra-simple hat, cup, and pinwheel to the more challenging (but still unintimidating) penguin, pelican, and piano.
Also included are the figures of a swan, lantern, cicada, pigeon, fox, rabbit, and other popular origami subjects. With the successful completion of these projects, origami hobbyists will be well on their way to mastering a fascinating art that's as old as the invention of paper itself.

Perfect for my Kindergartner & 2nd Grader
I bought this for my 6 year old who can easily follow instructions. He loves it! Ours did not come with any, so make sure to purchase some for it. We bought a plastic container to hold the papers so that they wouldn't be damaged in storage.
   Best of Luck
This wasn't easy and I'm not too clever. I had no experience with the basic folds of the game. You should review those before you embark on any paper folding experience. This is a good book, but I was expecting something more like Origami for Dummies.
   Easy my a$$.
I bought this for my daughter who was into the movie. I tried to make some of the creations with her, but they were not easy. I found lost many times because the directions were not well illustrated. I'm sure there are better books out there and I wish I'd chosen another one.
A Great Book for Creating Unplugged Things to Do
The media couldn't load. I bought this book to use with a group of children that I volunteer with. I've been looking for projects that don't require electronics or turn on anything. The project inside the book is different in difficulty, but all of them are easy for the kids. We don't need much except a stack of paper, scissors, watercolors or gel pens to decorate our final products. Many thanks to John Montroll for his work.
   True origami beginner book
My students love the entry level models in this book, and I teach a Kindergarten class that loves the moderately easy models. When introducing models, it is best to review the basic answer key symbols so they can understand what actions are being performed. You will need to show them that the progression changes with each picture because the shape of the paper changes with every step. There are many good books out there, but this one seems to cater to the younger group trying it out for the first time.
   Not Easy to Understand
The projects in this book are not great. It takes a lot of imagination to see what they are supposed to be. This book is hard to understand. I ordered something simple to use with my granddaughter because I had packed away some of the books I have used with kids for many years. The instructions aren't clear and they aren't exact. It doesn't say how much to fold over or where to fold it, but it does say fold over to back. I am wondering who gave the high reviews and why. Pick a different book.
Basic and long lasting fun for beginners
My seven year old was using post it notes while experimenting with folding paper. I ordered this book to make him more interested, and he thanked me for it all day. Ours did not come with the paper as stated in the description, but we were able to order a package with one day delivery. A great book. The water bomb was popular. A few weeks later, he has mastered almost all of the paper. The house has origami posted all over it. He makes many crafts to give to his friends at school. What a great book. He wrote about it while at school. We will be moving on to a new book. The book brought joy to my child and I am very happy about it.
   Great beginner book
You can make different things. Didn't like the idea of using a certain size paper.
   Looking forward to learning
I'm looking forward to learning simple designs from this book. The book has cute and simple designs.
   Very poor instructions
I was surprised that the book received so many positive reviews. The instructions to be completed were not clear. The first couple steps are easy but as soon as any type of irregular fold was needed, not the instructions nor the pictures made it clear what needed to be done. I tried a few with my son and was stumped by the simplest ones. I wish I'd gone with another book.
