Every C++ professional needs a copy of Effective C++. It is an absolute must-read for anyone thinking of doing serious C++ development. If you've never read Effective C++ and you think you know everything about C++, think again.
-- Steve Schirripa, Software Engineer, Google C++ and the C++ community have grown up in the last fifteen years, and the third edition of Effective C++ reflects this. The clear and precise style of the book is evidence of Scott's deep insight and distinctive ability to impart knowledge.
-- Gerhard Kreuzer, Research and Development Engineer, Siemens AG The first two editions of Effective C++ were embraced by hundreds of thousands of programmers worldwide. The reason is clear: Scott Meyers' practical approach to C++ describes the rules of thumb used by the experts -- the things they almost always do or almost always avoid doing -- to produce clear, correct, efficient code.

The book is organized around 55 specific guidelines, each of which describes a way to write better C++. Each is backed by concrete examples. For this third edition, more than half the content is new, including added chapters on managing resources and using templates. Topics from the second edition have been extensively revised to reflect modern Read More chevron_right

Highly recommended for a new to moderately experienced C++ programmer , not so much for one with some experience
When I was preparing for an interview, I wanted to brush up on some concepts, so I started reading this book. I was out of touch with advanced C++ for 2 years but was doing some C++ programming in- between. You learn all these things when you have good programming experience. If I had read this book a few years ago, I would have learned these concepts much earlier. If you' re like a college student or graduate with a basic C++ programming experience, but want to learn next level, this is the book for you.

   Excellent, and accessible
One of the rare kind of technical books is this one. The tone is full of information. If you want to understand the nuances of C++, you need an instructor who is willing to talk to you about it and show you code. Most books will show source code. In order to cover a topic, Meyers introduces it, provides insight that only comes with experience, and throws in humor to lighten the load. He' ll show you how to use the code to demonstrate his point. There are many books that are 500 pages or more. There are many books that need to cover the basics, and then cover the subjects for non- neophytes. The book is full of ideas for programmers. One of the few technical books that you can read from cover to cover is this one. Many are accessible, but not good for references. This is also both.

I only started reading this book a few days ago, but I can already see how valuable it is. Scott knows how to put it on paper. I would recommend this book to anyone that works with C++. This book is excellent.

   A rare gem. Buy it.
I'm a professional C programmer who needs to develop a seriouscompetency in C++ without messing around. The book has been helpful, readable, and brief. I' ve seen a lot of books that I' ve hated and few that I' ve liked. This one is good.
