Inspired by Octavia Butler's explorations of our human relationship to change, Emergent Strategy is radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help designed to shape the futures we want to live. Change is constant. The world is in a continual state of flux. It is a stream of ever-mutating, emergent patterns. Rather than steel ourselves against such change, this book invites us to feel, map, assess, and learn from the swirling patterns around us in order to better understand and influence them as they happen. This is a resolutely materialist spirituality based equally on science and science fiction, a visionary incantation to transform that which ultimately transforms us.

I wish I could give 6 or 7 stars!
Derived From Web , Dec 31, 2020
I wish I could give this book 6 or 7 stars. I believe that she expressed a path forward that is unique, intricate and novel. There are parts of the book that are very practical and other parts that feel like a walk in the clouds, but this gives balance and brings in creativity and art to a topic that often sticks to science, Witt said.

Entangled

Pauley also writes about ideation, mediation and the power of science fiction. AMB has an infectious enthusiasm for writing, and I'm thrilled she chose to pursue this path. It's great to be back home, said Samudra. It has a prescriptive side to it, but its substance is more like a hearty stew.

Transformative
Derived From Web , Nov 23, 2020
Strategy Emergent has been a transformative force in the book business. I won't give myself too many pats on the back, but I do want to acknowledge certain ways that this book had a direct impact on me, he said. This book has reminded me to remain, see interdependence, understand where relationships are greater than the strength of any of us individually. It gives really tangible examples, tools, and for how to incorporate emergence into each of our lives.

I don't buy books often but I bought this one
Derived From Web , Oct 4, 2020
I'm an avid reader and love libraries, and usually take books out of them. But I read a sample of Emergent Strategy and had to buy the physical version. Halfway through, I knew I would also be buying a print version. This book spoke to me in a way because it explains what I've been trying to create in my work in the education system as a permaculture designer, teacher wellness coach and public school reform proponent, she said. I hope to be able to participate in a workshop soon, he said. Thank you for putting your vision into the printed pages, said Goodrich.

Not a fit for me
Derived From Web , Dec 21, 2019
There were some interesting sections and I came away with a few highlights and notes that I’d like to revisit and apply to my work, he said. The section with writing and discussion prompts is one I'd like to spend some time reflecting on. I strained to tie her selections of poetry and quotes back to the thesis. But her frameworks lacked the concrete examples and actionable details to make them useful. She starts the book with a disclaimer that this is for people who are scared or bored of math and/or non-fiction. But there was still plenty of room to ground her concepts in something more tangible.

Remarkable
Derived From Web , Sep 3, 2018
I've never read a book in this genre. Lately I've been reading books on business, self-improvement, creativity and science fiction. I picked it up after my partner recommended it, and I discovered there were connections to sci-fi authors like Octavia Butler. In The Age of Enlightenment, I encountered a radically different vision of what the future could look like, and a radical path of healing and emergence and growth that could make that future happen. I'm deeply inspired by the diversity and courage of the ideas in this book, which are a clear reflection of the diversity and courage of movement building, he said. I am excited to have this book, which is about building a movement of self-aware individuals transforming people's relationship to work, performing it as a form of growth and self-expression, instead of an obligation, he said. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom with us, Coach.

Challenging but informative
Derived From Web , Jul 2, 2018
The parts comparing social change to nature were inspirational, and the exercises in the back were useful, too. Yes, I didn't always agree with Brown's premises or conclusions, but I think I'm better for reading this book.

Would also love to meet the author one day especially if you ...
Derived From Web , Dec 27, 2017
The book has affected my life in many ways. Whether it was re-thinking how I saw things or re-evaluating how I looked at potential problems, the impact of which was often difficult to predict. It has seriously changed how we interact with one another, and in turn how we view the world around us. If you enjoy reading serious fiction, you must have this book. I would also love to meet the author one day, if you are a huge Octavia Butler fan.
