Book Overview

Whenever you hear the sky rumble, that usually means a storm. In Virgil Flowers' case, make that two. The exceptional new thriller from the writer whose books are pure reading pleasure (Booklist).

The first storm comes from, of all places, the Minnesota zoo. Two large, and very rare, Amur tigers have vanished from their cage, and authorities are worried sick that they've been stolen for their body parts. Traditional Chinese medicine prizes those parts for home remedies, and people will do extreme things to get what they need. Some of them are a great deal more extreme than others--as Virgil is about to find out.

Then there's the homefront. Virgil's relationship with his girlfriend Frankie has been getting kind of serious, but when Frankie's sister Sparkle moves in for the summer, the situation gets a lot more complicated. For one thing, her research into migrant workers is about to bring her up against some very violent people who emphatically do not want to be researched. For another.she thinks Virgil's kind of cute.

You mess around with Sparkle, Frankie told Virgil, you could get yourself stabbed.
She carries a knife?
No, but I do.

Forget a storm--this one's a tornado.

From the Hardcover edition.

   Almost Extinct
I like Virgil Flowers and all his friends. Anyone who likes different action stories that are good, needs to follow Virgil Flowers. John Sandford is one of my favorite authors and they all deserve a 5 - star rating due to the entertainment you get from reading his books.

I always enjoy a new Virgil Flowers book
I always enjoy a new Virgil flower book, and this one was no exception. I am so glad Lucas Davenport continues to write the Sanford and Virgil Flowers novels. Always buy automatic items for me. Frankie is still with her girlfriend, Virgil, which I enjoy immensely. criminals have stolen 2 rare tigers from the Minnesota Zoo and Virgil is charged with finding them. Grisly and Suspenseful : I loved it!

Sandford Hits Another Enigmatic Ball Out of the Park
What a joy it is to climb into another mystery of Virgil flowers. He is my favorite creation of Sanford. I like him because he thinks about God, but is not preachy, swears less than Lucas Davenport and he rolls with the punches. He is not omnipotent nor flawless - he can laugh at himself and manages to solve his cases within the two covers of each book. Can 't wait for the next book.

   Lucas junior continues
Virgil's continuation of the great flowers saga continues. Seems like a get together of familiar friends in old surroundings. Though I have never been there, I have always been there.

   Another Great Virgil Flowers Book!
It can be very difficult to maintain a fresh series of books over the long term, interesting and interesting for the readers. Virgil Flowers did this very well with this latest Sandford installment. I will not make any statement about the plot, but suffice it to say that the main characters are nothing like you might have pictured. Good job, multiple interesting character development, great story lines. This series has been kept very fresh. Achievement of a great magnitude.

Flowers is here to stay; I hope.
As usual, John Sanford has written another novel with the ever expanding Virgil Flowers. The humor is there and the people are real, not made to become a caricature of a dozen people wrapped into one.

One of the best Flowers novels
A plot with a couple of twists, lots of local Minnesota touches, humor and perfect dialogue from our favorite characters. There is even a little cameo appearance from Lucas Davenport.

OK, but not one of his best
I love Sandford's Virgil Flowers series, but for a few reasons this is not one of his best, the first being that it is just not as fun and wryly funny as Holy Ghost or Deep Freeze, for example. It is also impossible to give a hoot about many characters, and the bad guys are about as engaging as the instructions on the back of a pill bottle. All that is said is that it is not horrible, but it is not a good example of a crime novel by Virgil Flowers.

My Least Favorite of all the Sandford books
Have read all 31 book Virgil books and most of the Lucas Davenport flowers. I'm glad I persisted, because it was very good in the middle and a good ending. Looking forward to the series of Virgil 10, 11 and 12.
