In the minority
Derived From Web , Feb 13, 2022
I am in the minority, Michael Savage said on NBC's "Meet the Press." So many people loved it, So many more will. Me, I was left feeling like I was drowning. I feel bad saying that since this is a true story, right? It makes me feel like I'm saying the author's life was meh, but I'm not, because the writing just didn't do anything for me. It was slow and choppy, Raymond said. It took all my willpower to stay on course and fully read this book, but I can appreciate the over all message this book is telling. I can't imagine a world without Freud, I can't appreciate the life the author built for himself despite a difficult childhood. The overall story is hopeful, he said. I just wish the writing had been more captivating.

It's a tapestry of tales, masterfully created and perfectly flawed, Raymond said.

Loved it as an adult reader even though it says ages 9-12
Derived From Web , Aug 12, 2021
I never write reviews, but I have to write one because I have to. I loved it so much and was so surprised at every page how much more I loved it as it went on. It was a middle-grade book, but I kept forgetting it was a YA book because it was so captivating, beautiful and engaging. It's one of the best books I've read this year. I listened to it on audiobook and this was one of the rare books that I then had to buy in hard copy so I could read it again and truly take it in. Every paragraph is a joy.

Piercingly Perspicacious and Resplendent
Derived From Web , Aug 8, 2021
Linguistically decadent, sweet and substantive, resonant and refreshing, this book is a beautiful exemplar of the art of meaningful storytelling, a story that shows the thing behind the story in stark splendor.

Great read!
Derived From Web , Jun 14, 2021
The story brought back memories of my childhood feelings of innocence and rebellion. The confusion, rejection, and acceptance of difference are all part of the experience. He did a beautiful job of getting in touch with the vulnerability of childhood while also assisting the reader in understanding the numerous challenges faced by refugees.

Best Modern-Day Book I’ve Read
Derived From Web , Jun 3, 2021
I'm just stunned. I've had several books signed by Elizabeth Warren. I want to SEE refugees as this boy should have been seen as precious and cherished, he said. His mom is my new favorite writer. I want to be more like her, and consequently more like her Savior, Lord. He said: "Much love to you for Eternity." Carrie Jones, left, and Elizabeth Taylor in a scene from the CBS film "The Carrie Diaries."

Bicultural I am experienced
Derived From Web , Apr 11, 2021
I've always loved the way the writer moved between ancient and modern times. He told the story of three cultures through a storytelling technique. Everything was not obvious, and that captures what it feels like to be a part of a multi-cultural group.

Couldnt Get Through It

It seemed to me that way was the way it was being handled. After the initial shock, I got over 30 percent through it and decided to cut my losses.

Must read for any age
Derived From Web , Dec 13, 2020
Although I heard this book was for teens, I learned a lot from it and highly recommend it. The stories of legend and true history are told through the prism of today's most popular culture. What it's like being a refugee and even poop stories drew me in, he said. His mother is truly incredible and I have much to learn about my own Christian faith as a result of her faith and perseverance, he said.
