Book Overview

It's the revolutionary world history study guide just for middle school students from the brains behind Brain Quest.

Everything You Need to Ace World History . . . kicks off with the Paleolithic Era and transports the reader to ancient civilizations--from Africa and beyond; the middle ages across the world; the Renaissance; the age of exploration and colonialism, revolutions, and the modern world and the wars and movements that shaped it.

The BIG FAT NOTEBOK(TM) series is built on a simple and irresistible conceit--borrowing the notes from the smartest kid in class. There are five books in all, and each is the only one book you need for each main subject taught in middle school: Math, Science, American History, English, and World History. Inside the reader will find every subject's key concepts, easily digested and summarized: Critical ideas highlighted in marker colors. Definitions explained. Doodles that illuminate tricky concepts. Mnemonics for a memorable shortcut. And quizzes to recap it all.

The BIG FAT NOTEBOKS meet Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and state history standards, and are vetted by National and State Teacher of the Year Award-winning teachers. They make learning fun, and are the perfect next step for every kid who grew up on Brain Quest.

I bought this to help students review for the Praxis ...
I bought this to help students with their exams. They found it to be a great help.

1
   Pages are stuck together
We are going trough the pain of cutting the bottom of the book because there are a lot of pages that aren't separated. It was disappointing for a new book.

Fantastic book for young history buffs. Great gift.
This book is wonderful. My daughter loves learning about history. I wanted to read it after it arrived. She would like to get the entire collection. The book is cool. It's a great gift for someone.

   History never looked so attractive
This book is larger than I thought. It is a very attractive book and has a great size. My teen will like using it for her studies. I am not positive about how effective it will be in teaching, but I am hopeful that it will work. The book ends in 2015, so anything beyond that will need to be learned elsewhere. I hope this helps another. Happy learning.

   Definitely a secular view
I am very dissatisfied with the secular view of Creation and evolution. We believe in the biblical account of creation despite reading it to be informed.

   Supplement for history class
My daughter's friends recommended the book. My daughter uses it for her class. She says it makes it easier to comprehend what she is learning.

   Easy book to follow.
The book is easy to use. The book states that humans were developed from apes, theory of evolution and much more, so don't be alarmed when you open it. The main topics are highlighted, but not everything is covered. There is a question after each chapter. The book could benefit from the support of the workbook. I don't believe in the Theory of Evolution, so I don't discuss it with my kids, however they seem to like the book, and I discuss other theories that show other theories.

   Amazin!
I teach my 5th graders and younger children. When it comes to history, I have no idea where to start or how to teach it. My daughter loves history and this book makes it fun. After each chapter there is a check your knowledge page with questions that will follow with an answer page. I make my own tests after each unit to check my daughter's knowledge and to see if we can move on to the next unit. Everything is here! All the way to the internet age and current events. Getting the other books from this series is definitely a priority.

1
   Slave trade wiped from history
The section on the slave trade was not mentioned. How can the histories of the Americas, Africa and Europe be written if they don't include an inconvenient truth? It's omission is more glaring because most schools teach it. The book isn't a teaching aid.

3
   First chapter just theory
The first chapter is useless and I only gave it three stars. When will we learn that evolution is just a theory? Let's teach our students what we know to be fact, discard the rest and teach it as a theory if we have enough integrity to do so. I think I should have looked into the book before buying it because I assumed it was acceptable in terms of actual history.
