GREAT intro to chapter book reading

The whole thing is a great story, a great parable, said Matthew Berryhill, a professor at the University of Nottingham. I bought Mr. Fox, The Witches and Mr. Disney's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Witches and Mr. Snow as part of the summer learning fun I planned for my 5.5 year old son. Broomhead is a quick and easy chapter book for parents to read to their children in order to introduce them to more advanced reading. Even toddlers could read this book. The book was finished in about a week reading every night as a family and then we watched the movie together. Only loosely based on the book, "The Fifth Estate" by Gillian Flynn. My son LOVES both and I love that he is so enthralled with reading, his mom said.

Perfect for Reading Aloud

I recently purchased the Kindle version to read to my almost 3-year-old, 6-year-old and almost 9-year-old. She is taking it or leaving it, she is using her sisters and oooo-ing and ahhh-ing in the appropriate places. The book has the right amount of detail so it doesn't bog down the book, he said. It's all action packed and we're on the edge of our seats, Tunick said. The Beatles' song "Yellow Submarine" was also "short." It took me 20 minutes to get through the first 5 chapters, so we will probably finish the book in a couple more nights. I was worried that my oldest wouldn't like me doing the reading and that my middle kid would get bored easily. I can't recommend this book highly enough to my family.

Not a good book. Bad examples all around

Hardcover version has a MAJOR printing issue.

The book is being held back until the publisher can fix the issue with this printing. For those purchasing the hardcover, be aware that the book is printed in red which would make it difficult to read even if printed correctly. The book was originally printed with a misprinted version where many of the page backgrounds are also dark red, making it impossible to read. Amazon sent a replacement right away, but unfortunately the replacement had the same issue. Very disappointing quality control at both Amazon and Puffin Books. This review was for the printing, not the story. Fox is a wonderful children's book.

Witty, fun, action packed

This is my go to book for students that need action in a story to keep their attention, Mrs. Goin said. It's just that the plot isn't that appealing to a 5th grader. This book is a great present for the boy or girl in your life.

A Fun Read Aloud for your Kids

I enjoyed reading this to my kids during their Read-Aloud time. Though the language and devices are a little advanced for their age, they were engaged in the story. It takes a lot of vibrancy to bring the characters to life, but that is definitely what keeps the kids engaged, he said. Even though it may be difficult for some parents to get offended or uncomfortable with the language or reference to killings, it is a good discussion starter for kids. Fantastic Mr. Fox is another great addition to Roald Dahl's collection of fun and lively stories.
