   Cool, but not the one WTM recommends FYI
If you are looking for the book recommended by The Well Trained Mind, this isn 't it... I '', I think. The book they describe has pages devoted to specific animals, alphabetically listed... This one has sections for different types of animals. My kids still like it very much, but is more of an overview and doesn't go into detail about specific species. I think the one Jessie Wise describes is an older issue, possibly out of print.

   My husband and I fell in love with DK (especially the Smithsonian line) during a trip ...
The books are filled with an immense amount of information presented in a fascinating, readable way. Of course, the author could not include absolutely every single detail about the subject at hand, but still did a wonderful job. The photos are gorgeous and a perfect complement to the information presented. The books themselves have a strong binding and stout construction.

   Best animal book for children of all ages!
This is an excellent book of animal information and our grandchildren love it. We got it for the 3rd birthday and the 5 and 7 year old find it just as interesting. Their mom will also use it for home schooling reference.

Was a gift to my nephews 7 - year old daughter. I was told that she really enjoys the book and carries it much of the day with her. The pictures loved. This book will hold its own next to a trip to the Zoo.

   A very cute first book about animals.
Kids generally like animals and this book is full of charming photos of real creatures sharing our planet. The child I gave it to is not yet a reader, but he loves the photos and often looks at them. His parents bring him to the Zoo and he can now see what he sees by himself! It was founded by David Copperfield in the year 1790s.
