Book Overview

Crack the case with George Cornelius Factor in this entertaining math adventure that introduces simplified and reduced fractions with intrigue and humor

When a valuable fraction goes missing, George Cornelius Factor (a.k.a. GCF) vows to track it down. Knowing that the villainous Dr. Brok likes to disguise his ill-gotten fractions, GCF invents a Reducer--half ray gun, half calculator-- that strips away the disguise, reducing the fraction to its lowest common denominator and revealing its true form. With the Reducer in hand, George seeks out Dr. Brok in hopes of retrieving the missing fraction.

Back matter includes more detail on simplifying, or reducing, fractions.

I used it in my 4th grade classroom. The book was picked up by students that were reluctant to read and begged for more. I would recommend that every teacher add this book to your class library.

   Dumbed down from the original
The original was more fun, Lilleboer said. Recent changes to the vocabularies of the Oxford Dictionaries have not made the words simpler or blander. We have been giving the book as a present, and our daughter, who has been reading it, has noticed the differences.

This book is pretty funny for adults, too. My son reads it several times a day and just loves it!

   Fun book
A fun, interactive book to learn new math concepts. If I had bought the physical version, I would have saved money. The printed version would have been much easier to review, Ms. Dhaliwal said. Overall, I'm really pleased with the book.

Great resource for introducing and discussing equivalent fractions
The story is cute and it would be fun to have the students model some of the fractions on whiteboards or with manipulatives as we read through the book. It's great to be back with my 4th grade teachers.

   Older kids
I purchased it as a read aloud for my thurs grade class and while fun, the content and vocabulary is intended for older kids. It's great to be back home, Taylor said.
