Great beginning jazz book- has real jazz and blues songs
Great selection of jazzy and bluesy songs for the standard piano student at level 3. Any student of Level 3 Bastien, Alfred or Faber would be able to play these with practice. Each song would be a one or two lesson assignment at this level. Could be suitable for a Level 2 student recital, but would require much work. Songs include pedal use, jazz rhythms and syncopation. Many of the songs are arrangements of known songs. The arrangements are well done and do not sound as empty as many of the first jazz books tend to be.

   Mature lyrics
The lyrics on some of the songs are too mature for them in my opinion. Examples of who is the livin dolly with the beautiful eyes ''. What a pair of lips, I 'd like to try them for size I didn 't know if it was day or night. I started kissing everything in sight For me, I 'd rather have this book around than trying to monitor which songs are playedread.

   Perfect arrangements
These are perfect arrangements for a late intermediate student or an early beginner. My only recommendation is to write the chord names on top of the melody line, similar to what you see on lead sheets, so that students can understand the harmonic structure better.

I am a teacher of music and I have to say that this book is just fun. My students have enjoyed learning the songs here so much. I highly recommend!

As expected! Great song selection for young jazz lovers!
As was expected. Order was a replacement for the original copy of his son, which was purchased by his piano teacher.

Great arrangements of some jazzy pieces
The arrangements are great, however, several songs are duplicates of what is included in the book Lessons'basic series.
