Book Overview
I used to be a lesbian.
In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.Frequently Asked Questions About Gay Girl, Good God: The Story Of Who I Was, And Who God Has Always Been

First, I love the title, because it's a great conversation starter ''. Lots of people asking me what I was reading! Jackie's story is fantastic and incredibly well and tactfully written. It's an easy read with lots of eye opening insights... Great read for Christians and non-Christian alike. We are all saved sinners by His mercy and His grace!

Don’t read this.
Derived From Web , Sep 29, 2020
If you are an LGBT person trying to figure things out, don 't read this book. If you are fighting to know your worth as a human being, please don 't read this. I tried suicide by reading this book. Jackie is a phenomenal writer and Jackie is a wonderful writer. Her writing truly convinced me that my sexuality could be changed or controlled. She convinced me that God changes the holy and leaves the unlovable. I was convinced that I was a hopeless cause beyond love.

Powerful and Insightful
Derived From Web , May 23, 2020
As a same-sex individual, this book has illuminated a fundamental connection between my gender-loving attractions and my relationship with God. Unfortunately, as many other same-sex individuals have had to embrace, I have had to deal with the uninformed messages from other Christians that my feelings for the same gender are unnatural and not God's actual physical action, not necessarily my unacted upon feelings for the same sex. This book is a must read for any same-sex person seeking a relationship with God or anyone who seeks a greater perspective on God and sexuality. While this book is a memoir, riddled in the beginning with subjective points of views, the author becomes very objective with her views on sexuality and God as well as in the book. Great book!

Not At All Suprised
Derived From Web , Apr 9, 2020
If you are familiar with the ministry of Jackie Hill-Perry, you know that she is powerful and unapologetic in her communication of truth. From the first page to the last, you will find that same power is present in this book, from the first page to the last. She does a fantastic job of not making this book something to be valued only by those who have similar struggles to those she experienced in her sexuality. This book is beneficial for all who seek to know a Good God, but know that they have some obstacles preventing them from pursuing Him. This book speaks boldly about what must be done with these obstacles and where to find the strength to do that which is necessary. I found myself rebuked, inspired and appreciative at the end of this book. The truth NEEDS to be told the truth. Hard truths are sometimes difficult to tell. But I am grateful to God for granting this woman the grace to tell the hard truth in a time where not many have ears for it. This book is more than worth the reading.

So good!
Derived From Web , Feb 16, 2020
Book Phenomenal is a phenomenomenal. She is so insightful and funny and the way she writes is unlike many other authors. She communicates so many important principles without judgement and this book led me to other works of hers that are just as good. I highly recommend the book and the audio version, as she reads it out loud and you get to learn even more of her personality. But buy the book for your friends and family who are against audiobooks!

Very misleading
Derived From Web , Feb 1, 2020
I couldn 't even finish reading the book, it was so dreadful to read. This is how we are supposed to think about LGBTQ people? God hates them unless they turn from what is not a choice btw. Even though she admits that she is still lesbian, she fights it just about every day. Don 't buy this for any LGBTQ person you know as a gift. It will only make them depressed about themselves. God loves His children that he created in His image! Dont be fooled Dont be fooled

Love Jackie Hill Perry!
Derived From Web , Aug 9, 2019
She did a great job with this book in helping me understand her experiences as a homosexual woman who is looking for Christ. It does not matter who you are or how you identify yourself, Jesus tells everyone to die to your old self, take the cross and follow Him. This is the true essence of Christian life. Dying to self is part of the being born again. The old self comes to life and the new self dies. The temptations may still be there, but we can overcome sin in Christ.

An important read, no matter your sexual identity.
Derived From Web , Jun 30, 2019
I bought this book to learn how to relate to those dealing with the same-sex attraction while standing firm on God's word. In addition to relating her own story of struggle and salvation, the author led me to confront my own hang-ups about sexual attraction and to turn my eyes on Jesus as the ultimate reward. Jackie Hill-Perry has helped me understand those who are going through the struggle of same-sex attraction and the undue emphasis on many heterosexuals place on the earthly marriage bed instead of the marriage of Christ to His Church. You may read this book hoping to learn how to change others, but instead find yourself changed.
