Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

In today's world of exponentially increased communication and responsibility, yesterday's methods for staying on top just don't work.

Veteran management consultant and trainer David Allen recognizes that time management is useless the minute your schedule is interrupted; setting priorities isn't relevant when your email is down; procrastination solutions won't help if your goals aren't clear.
Allen's premise is simple: our ability to be productive is directly proportional to our ability to relax. Only when our minds are clear and our thoughts are organized can we achieve stress-free productivity and unleash our creative potential. He teaches us how to:

  • Apply the do it, delegate it, defer it, drop it rule to get your in-box empty
  • Reassess goals and stay focused in changing situations
  • Overcome feelings of confusion, anxiety, and being overwhelmed
  • Feel fine about what you're not doing

From core principles to proven tricks, Getting Things Done has the potential to transform the way you work -- and the way you experience work. At any level of implementation, David Allen's entertaining and thought-provoking advice shows you how to pick up the pace without wearing yourself down.

   The System Works
I work from a home office and have to juggle several projects. I bought this book because I felt overwhelmed. Thank you so much I did. The book helped me realize that I was wasting a lot of time on disorganized things. The stress of keeping up was taking its toll on me. David Allen's book is worth its weight in gold. The system it describes is working. It is as simple as that. If you need to step up your output without increasing your stress level, this book is for you.

Worth its weight in gold ...
The book is more applicable now than it was when it was published. It has great strategies for implementing a system. The book does not know that the phone is a thing. You must check out the secret weapon after you've read the notes. If your work environment requires you to use Microsoft OneNote, you can use the secret weapon found in GTD OneNote to implement it. It seems useless to implement this system without technology.

   I get it already!
I agree with many of the other reviewers. The book is not perfect, but it is good. The system is great and has already had an impact on how I prioritize, but I get it already! My biggest gripe is repetitive. You read the same thing over and over. The book could be cut down to 50 valuable pages. It was very dated. There is a book ready for revision. It's not hard to apply the principles to the modern digital age, but it's really67531 when you reference Palm's, pagers, and Rolodex. The random quotes in the book detract from being able to get through the book efficiently. It's hard to focus when each page has a small section.

This book is all the rage with my friends
But now I don't know why. Save your money and make a to do list at the end of the day and try to get it all done. Start there the next. I have been reading that book for a long time.

   A personal favorite. Buy it
This book shows you how to organize your brain. You should buy this book if you are considering it. You can see the outlines of the prescribed texts on the author's website. It was absolutely worth it.

Best method for normal people ever designed
I have run a successful company for over a decade on the principles in this book. The three best things that make this method work for me are 1 - it uses the basic theory of I make lists and upgrades it in an easy to use way, 2 - it truly solved the laying awake in bed thinking about things, and 3 - it can self-recover. If you want to fall off the program for a month, eat an entire cake, then reactivate in a day. I was tired of God, what did I forget? Get this book now. Do you not believe me? The subtitle is: Read it. The subtitle is always ignored by people. Productivity is stress-free. There is stress. It's free. There is truth.
