In this richly developed fantasy, Lei is a member of the Paper caste, the lowest and most persecuted class of people in Ikhara. She lives in a remote village with her father, where the decade-old trauma of watching her mother snatched by royal guards for an unknown fate still haunts her. Now, the guards are back and this time it's Lei they're after -- the girl with the golden eyes whose rumored beauty has piqued the king's interest.
Over weeks of training in the opulent but oppressive palace, Lei and eight other girls learns the skills and charm that befit a king's consort. There, she does the unthinkable -- she falls in love. Her forbidden romance becomes enmeshed with an explosive plot that threatens her world's entire way of life. Lei, still the wide-eyed country girl at heart, must decide how far she's willing to go for justice and revenge.

The book arrived damaged and although I have requested a refund, I am unable to return the book because it costs me more to return the product where I live, so the policy is useless to me.

Extremely Misleading, Poorly written
Derived From Web , Sep 3, 2019
I picked this book in Barnes and Noble and read the sleeve. Nowhere did it mention lesbianism nor beastiality themes would be present. As a parent, I feel that this book should not be marketed to impressionable readers, who are very young. I feel that the author's writing style leaves much to be desired. Not only did I grew bored with the plot, I also grew bored with the protagonist. This is not a book I would have purchased EVER, had I known that certain themes would be present. Nor is this a book I would read to my teen.

Liked it with hard beginning
Derived From Web , Feb 22, 2019
I like the book and would recommend it depending on the person. I will say that 35% of the way via my Kindle app found it difficult to get through due to the subject matter. I have a hard time seeing, reading or otherwise being an intern in characters or a story that involves rape or sexual exploitation. I found it hard to read about women who were selected to be raped. It is part of the story but is not everything. I don 't want to taint anyone else's opinion of it, and is a worthy read, but it took me a while to invest. I wanted the main character to be more of her own advocate. I hope to see a sequel to this novel since it ends with a lot of promise. I 'd like to read more about these two women, their backstories are deep and creative. I want to see more of this universe, especially where it has left off.

What You Should Know...Warning Labels Not On The Book
Derived From Web , Jan 3, 2019
Let me go ahead and give the warning labels that should have come on that book, a book that is supposedly young adult. First off, this book should not be YA, even if the main character is 17. Second, it is a fantasy love story that takes place in a lesbian realm, so it is fantasy. Thirdly, there is a violent rape scene. Fourthly, there is forced prostitution and coerced prostitution. Fifth, there is Beastiality.I place these warnings because some parents are pickier about what their young teens read than others. If you are considering this book for your teens or if your teens are wanting to read it, this review will perhaps give you a better understanding of what is in the book.

Meh...
Derived From Web , Nov 26, 2018
Waiting for more, more anything got me through the book. The protagonist is “ forced †to have the fire. But beyond the fighting a bit here and there, she goes along with the path she is forced to take. I don 't feel anything but mild pity for her and the situation she finds herself in. At best, world building is mediocre, leaving me with lots of questions and no answers. Memoirs of a Geisha meet Beastiality, but at least she kept it clean. Is it the worst $12.99 I ever spent, nope, but... Here I feel like we just got a better story.
