   "Must" reading - as we try to educate our next generation
Culture is a fundamental part of it. . WTF an utter delight. So very clear, so well written and so timely. We want you to know that we have ordered more copies immediately for family and friends, one of whom is in the coaching business. We wish Julie and Brian all the success in their new venture, and we know exactly what an important role their parents had in making all that possible. As a New Jersey immigrant, I urge you to read the chapters from Trip to Abilene and Captain Asoh of Jerry Harvey's THE ABILENE PARADOX, available through Amazon.

   Want to Help? Buy this book, and increase your impact. Seriously.
Grant provides a lot of data to support his conclusions, which are both surprising and welcome, and I found his reasonings compelling as well. If you consider yourself at least something of an altruist, I think that this book provides a blueprint on how to succeed in life and business without being burned out or discouraged. If your instinct is to help others succeed, this book will help you avoid being exploited by takers who would turn your efforts toward brotherhood into their personal profits. Contrary to some intuition, there are ways to achieve personal success without having to check your empathy at the door, without having to demand a profit on every transaction, and in fact, learning to do it right can increase the amount of help you can provide enormously. I was inspired by this book ''.

   I liked it so much, I gave a copy to my mentors.
Book of distinction. If you believe in winwin - thinking, the Karma of Giving and the Law of Attraction, you will love this book. Even if you're susceptible to cynicism and highly competitive, you should find it enlightening. However, if you see the world, this book uses both research and anecdotal evidence to demonstrate when to give and when to take and how to be successful whether you give or take.

   A nuanced and helpful theory on cooperation
Give and Take dives deeply into the literature on social interaction styles. The book identifies three styles and walks through how each reacts in different situations. The book has interesting implications for how to think about making the most out of social interactions. While takers might maximize gains from a short term exchange, the benefits of compound over time, as givers accumulate reputation across a wide network of supporters. It also dives into how givers can avoid being taken advantage of and avoid burn out. The most important thing I realised reading the book was that I have aspects of my life where I mentally keep score and that just the act of keeping score makes me less altruistic than I would like to be.

   Highly Recommend Give and Take, A Very Human View on Business
Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives our Success, by Adam Grant, is a fresh (and very welcome) take on collaboration in business. I find Grant's work compelling - the concepts shared in Give and Take seem to be very common sense because they point to how humans work together so naturally as social animals, yet the applications feel fresh and innovative. Lastly, the writing style is engaging; I never found my attention wandering while reading.

   A good message but takes way too long to get there
Overall, I like the subject and say what the author is saying about being a giver and how that can lead to success. The daily naming dropping and tangents made it a boring book to get through. The author goes into too many side stories that eventually return to the original point, but isn 't needed. He could easily have gotten to the point and made his point in half the time and pages. Worth reading a book, but be prepared for a slow book. I also have an issue with the title, as the book is really about how it is a revolutionary approach to success, but he talks about how it can date back to the days of President Lincoln. It covers Givers, Takers and Matchers, so it should be called Givers, Takers and Matchers how to not burn bridges and be successful!

   A good read
This book teaches a lot of valuable lessons that anyone could use, especially if you are trying to reach the top of the ladder of success. If you are looking for an empire on givers, not takers, then you must read this book. After reading, I have determined what can be changed in my life to help me become more of a giver than a taker.

   Helping Others Become Successful Can Also Help You Succeed
Grant's writing is a little drawn out, and sometimes I wish he would already make his point, but the topics he discusses are very important, especially in the business world. His idea that helping others become successful can actually allow us to become more successful, and will change the way you think about achieving your goals.

   If you suspect you need to compromise your values, read this first
If you are a giver, don 't question your values. You are right there. If you are feeling burned out, read this book. Turns out that the givers are at the top and bottom of the food chain. The takers are not at the top. Conventional culture makes it seem to be the way to success, but conventional culture is the way to success. Adam walks you through the differences between givers, matchers and takers and gives advice on how to avoid burnout --- the thing that sends some well meaning givers to the bottom is burnout. Not that they give, but that they do.
