Book Overview

Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs is a new take on the fairy-tale classic Goldilocks and the Three Bears, so funny and so original--it could only come from the brilliant mind of Mo Willems, the author/illustrator of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and the Elephant and Piggie series.

Once upon a time, there were three hungry Dinosaurs: Papa Dinosaur, Mama Dinosaur . . . and a Dinosaur who happened to be visiting from Norway.

One day--for no particular reason--they decided to tidy up their house, make the beds, and prepare pudding of varying temperatures. And then--for no particular reason--they decided to go . . . someplace else. They were definitely not setting a trap for some succulent, unsupervised little girl.

Definitely not

This hilarious story is perfect for fans of the Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.

Adults and Children are the same species
There are quite a few people who think this one was over their kid's head, Tunick said. It's just that the allusions are to Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." But my six-year-old twins and my four-year-old daughter have read this over and over and over again. The key I think is for the reader to be familiar with multiple retellings of the Goldilocks story. My kids love one by Richard Scarry, but they also have read other versions with me. One by one, they all throw back their heads and roar. The Harrisons are correct, says Blair. In a video posted on YouTube, Willems can be heard messing with the rhythm of the classic. This book can be read by both children and adults, and it has been recommended to book clubs. It's great to have that sort of book on your bookshelf.

lots of fun, strong girl heroine
His son has loved the book since he was 18 months old. It's just that much more fun with the Three Bears. And he knows he would love to eat chocolate pudding, even though he's never had it. I would recommend this book to any child. No princess, no princess moves. This Goldilocks never listened to anyone, much less Stella. She never listened to warnings about the dangers of barging into huge houses. As soon as she came across a strange, enormous house, she barged right in! Our son, he shouts at us.

Thanks for the fun Mo Willems!
It was just that we just read it again and I decided I should write a review. Mo Willems is a comedy genius. His books are so much fun to read, I recommend them to anyone. The book gives you so much more to explore, even if you're not a fan of Rowling's work. We listened to the Norwegian pronunciation of horjfsk and looked up other words in Norwegian. We have studied the pictures in great depth and my daughter was thrilled to discover Pigeon's face in the cookie jar. Yes, I could go on and on. Each time we read it we discover something else fun, that is the mark of a great book, Thibault said. At our house many times after the girls have eaten one of our favorite foods, my husband or I have chased them around pretending to try to eat a succulent, delicious, fill-in-the-blank-eating-little-girl! Thanks for the Mo Willems!

   More "Mo" please
It was a delight to be able to identify other familiar Willems characters in the story. And they were intrigued by the possibility of more stories posed by the end pages.

   More cheers for Mo!
My husband couldn't read this book to my kids without cracking. It's just that funny." The sharp-eyed youngster will spot some pigeon cameos throughout the book, and the D.o.N. will be delighted to hear that the book is being serialized. His favourite character is Spider-Man.

   mo willems is the best
My 3 year old LOVES this book and so do we! The book is a great read, too, by Pauley Perrette. I might have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the book.

Great book for kids that are a little older
When I received it and read it for the first time, I realized this book is better suited for slightly older children, maybe around 7 or 8.

   Cutest version of Goldilocks ever!
Mo Willems is pretty much a slam dunk, but this book is hilarious.

Extremely enjoyable for both adults and kids!
I'm not even a big fan of the Harry Potter series, but this is probably my favorite children's book. I love reading it to my kids, and don't mind reading it over and over again. The story is postmodern enough that adults will enjoy references and modifications to the original story, he said. There are many hidden illustrations that point to Willems' other books, and that just adds to the charm. I will be buying this for every person I know with kids.

I've seen the film three times and I'm in love. Not only do my students love this book but it's one of my favorites.
