Book Overview

In a time of crisis, two women come together and set off down a road of hope in this novel in the Tending Roses series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Before We Were Yours.

Twenty-year-old Jenilee Lane, whose dreams are as narrow as the sky is wide, doesn't imagine any good could come out of the tornado that has ripped across the Missouri farmland where she makes her home. But some inner spark compels her to take action. To rescue her elderly neighbor Eudora Gibson from the cellar in which she's been trapped. To make her way to the nearby town of Poetry, where the townspeople have begun to gather in the only building left standing. To collect from the devastated landscape fragments of life that lie strewn about in the tornado's wake: letters, photographs, and mementos that might mean something to people who have lost everything.

Eudora Gibson didn't think Jenilee had it in her. But the girl she's hardly noticed for years is now surprising her--stepping forward with a bravery that inspires Eudora to face her own bitter past. Brought close by tragedy, the two will learn lessons about the resilience of the human spirit and the ties that make a community strong. And together, they will travel to a place that once lay beyond their dreams.

There is a lesson to be learned. It is the love of friends and people that matter in this life. I highly recommend this book.
Something good could come from a tornado, I wouldn't dream of that. A young girl named Jenilee walks with everything wiped away. Jenilee, who saves the life of an elderly woman, is considered white trash. The town begins to see Jenilee in a different light once the word gets out that she saved the elderly woman. The characters come to like and love Jenilee, thanks to Lisa Wingate. It is the love of family and friends that matters more than material things in our lives. We can always rebuild, but not the love of people. I really like this book and recommend it.
   I absolutely love this author
I could see similarities to my own childhood. The story shows that all families have problems. This story is about redemption for those who are willing to be redeemed. It's good to forgive and not hold onto past mistakes. You won't hate anyone to The Lord. Anyone who has ever felt unseen or unwanted should read this story. I challenge you to forgive the people who made you feel that way.
   A GOD-given gift; A ministry
The gift of Lisa's Wingate is to the needs of people. I can relate to being in a controlling relationship, and only the hand of God can set you free. I can relate to self- doubt because controlling people want you to be dependent. I liked the exchanges between Eudora and Jaans and the relationship between Eudora and Jenilee.
Hope is what we have for each day and the future. I am a 75 year old woman who has had many dark moments in her life, and after reading this story, my hope for the future is a bit less clouded. I have worked hard to get past them and have a sense of purpose in my life. The story helped me to see what I still need to do. I know the story is only fiction, but I believe it will touch someone and give them hope.
A Book About Small Town Wisdom
This book was picked up by me during my challenge. Lisa's characters are always willing to learn from the difficult situations they find themselves in, even though they are filled with small town wisdom and good sense. The book did not fail. The main character is a young lady who has grown up in a tough situation. Everyone around her and herself has very low expectations because of town gossip. Throughout the story, Jennilee has the chance to make choices to do acts of kindness and see how beauty and opportunity come through crisis. Readers will identify with several vividly written characters. I enjoyed the read and felt like I have grown from her characters. A touching story is worth reading.
   Never judge another
During one of the worst tornado seasons in the Midwest, I think I should read this book. In the aftermath of a tornado that devastated the area, one character proved herself to be indispensable. People are quick to judge another and don't take the time to truly understand the situation. It happens in rural areas. This is an excellent example of a case like that. The writing was great and I was riveted by it.
   Well written
Lisa Wingate doesn't let her readers down. A tornado ripped through the area and town of Poetry Missouri. A run down home is spared by a twenty- year old woman. The home down the road was destroyed. She saved the elderly neighbor who looked down on the Lane because of her rotten Daddy. The buildings that used to give medical treatment to people were destroyed by the tornado. The quiet little girl becomes the one to rally the town.
I kept reading the book because I thought it would get better. The ending was not worth the time or money.
   I loved this book
I loved this book. Lisa Wingate's work is very readable because it flows like a good conversation. My goal is to read each book in the series in its entirety. The deeper characters in the story are not provided by reading just one of the series. I thought of the characters almost as if they were real people, wondering how things turned out for them. I need to read the next book to find out. Some of these characters come back in another series as they move in a different direction. All of Lisa's books focus on what's important in life.
