Teach young children that Jesus came to end goodbyes.
Jesus knew how scary it is when someone gets really sick. He knew how sad it is when someone dies. Jesus cried when his friend, Lazarus, died. But he did something at his friend's tomb that changed everything. He showed that he came to give his friends life after death.
In this vivid, moving and exciting retelling of the story of Lazarus, Lauren Chandler helps children understand that Jesus came to say goodbye to goodbyes--for ever.
The author, Lauren Chandler, used the story of Lazarus to help her own children in the wake of her husband's (Matt Chandler) brain tumor. Whether children are coming to terms with the illness or death of a loved one, or simply fearful of when that day might come, this book reassures them with the amazing truth that Jesus came to give his friends life after death.

A beautiful promise that Heaven awaits!

The stories of Lazarus and Jesus show us how death was beaten and how our goodbyes are only temporary. Echeverri's delightful illustrations do a wonderful job retelling the Bible story that reminds us all that though we experience death in this life, the promise of Heaven awaits. I particularly liked the final pages that bring back the story to the reader, outlining some of the painful goodbyes we must endure in this life. It is also worth mentioning that I use Goodbye Goodbyes as an outreach staple for our ministry of child loss that serves bereaved siblings.

Beautiful!

It has provided excellent conversation for my children and I as we work through the death of a baby sister and more recently our pastor. My children are 4 and 6 years old and both enjoyed the book and were able to dialogue about it. This is a must have library for your needs. I don 't know who benefited more from it, my children or myself.

Great idea, but lacking
Derived From Web , Sep 1, 2020
We received this book to help explain death and how saying goodbye is not forever to those who love Jesus. I would reorder it completely and put the content at the beginning at the end. But the story of Jesus is very confusing because Lazarus raises him from the dead, so that it doesn 't quite go with the concept of talking about death and saying goodbye to the goodbyes. I get it, Jesus fought death and Jesus mourned his friend, and understands our sadness when our loved ones die, but this is missing some vital pieces and explanations for children.

Wonderful!

They are the greatest christian children's books we have found! This one is in particular hard to cry in. Especially love the picture of Heaven, where you see all the tribes, not just a bunch of white people in shiny white clothing!

Worthy collection of kids books!

We love all the good books for children. The illustrations are engaging and clever and the words don 't read like a typical book ; it is like the reader becomes the storyteller himselfherself. These are epic books to read over and over again to draw our children into the wonderful story that God has written.

With a most likely fatal diagnosis for our son....
Derived From Web , Apr 4, 2019
Our son, who is due June 15, was given a fatal prognosis. With two other children, it felt impossible to tell them that the brother they were anticipating may not be with us for very long, and if he is with us for any length of time, he may not be healthy. This book ministered to me and continues to minister to them. Thank you so much for writing it so beautifully.

Great Book for Kids, Good Book for Adults
Derived From Web , Feb 9, 2019
Many people die and do so because we grieve. Having lost a close number of family members, I know of the pain. It can be quite devastating to experience this loss for a child, and their limited understanding makes the situation even more complex. However, in Goodbye to Goodbyes, Chandler does a great job of helping this difficult subject through a Christian lens. She uses the biblical story of Lazarus to emphasize the ultimate goal of Heaven for those who trust Jesus Christ. This is done without taking the text from the Bible verbatim to help children cope with grief. I read it then allowed my 9 year old to read it, and I believe it is very helpful in this way.
