The basic layout is that the student reads a passage and then answers a question for comprehension. The main focus of the book is on sequencing and vocabulary. This is great for honing those first-grade reading skills.

   I really like it
Good workbook, said Robert Bruno, executive director of education for AOL Europe. By having the child trace the words to the picture, it teaches how to spell. It's such a cute book with little picture descriptions of their words, I thought.

   Nice workbook
I like that it didnt have too much wasted space. I like when there are challenging pages and more work on the page than on pictures. This was a nice surprise for the 6 year old.

   Great diversity in lessons
Great lessons, great with plenty of diversity, so not to seem boring to my 5 yr. old. One lesson a day seems sufficient to work toward reading and word comprehension, he said. Pleased to hear from you!

Excellent book for 5 year old learning to read
Very good book for 5 year olds. Within two days of starting the book, she had read all the letters. This book gives parents motivation to read. I am glad to hear that it was a good deal, said Dr. Julie.

   Reasonable priced and helpful
It was recommended to me by a friend that I buy it as a supplement for my son. It could be great when he is excited to study alone, she said.

   Excellent for homeschooling
I have quite a few other workbooks I have tried with my first child, Morgenthau said. I've read all the books, and I really love them. My daughter does too - they are not as simple as the other books, and only after about a month have her reading and writing skills jumped ahead. The problem was that the Excel workbook was not fully functional after several months using other workbooks. I have also bought other books in the series. There are also some great math books and maze books. Great content, great paper, too.

   Eager to learn
My son has special needs and I work with his school as a supplement to his classroom work. He actually enjoys his homework, Mr. Hughes said. Each lesson prepares him for the next milestone. Like the rest of the book, I like the way the books are structured.

   I am done with Kumon.
I did not like this book, and felt it had no application. Each lesson highlights a phonic skill such as long A words with a picture and the word long A next to it. The following activities would simply have my child copy the word or match the picture, but it didn't really help my child's understanding of long A words. I have bought several of the books and was mildly impressed.
