Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

When day is gone, and shadows begin to deepen, it is time for Grandfather Twilight to close his book, put on his jacket, and go for a walk through the forest.

Little birds hush as he walks by, and the rabbits and other small creatures watch in silence as he performs his very special evening task and returns to his house among the trees. Small readers and listeners, too, will sense the serenity of this poetic story, and will be comforted to learn that the twilight is a gentle, friendly time.

Exquisite pictures extend and illuminate the text, to reveal the nightly miracle so faithfully performed by Grandfather Twilight. Perfect for reading aloud and for sharing at bedtime, this beautiful and reassuring book will be cherished by old and young alike.

Still with me 25 years later
This is such a magically beautiful little book. I was so fortunate to grow up many years ago with my parents reading it to me. I am now an adult, but this beautiful book has stayed with me, my favorite childhood book still on my shelf. In a world that is so loud, so fast, this book offers a space and story that is profoundly beautiful, calm and quiet. Barbara's illustrations transport you into a world that is soft, gentle, and magical. The delicacy and tenderness of each image is truly unique and can be felt in each page. When I have become older, I give this book to each of my friends who have children. I feel like I am offering them a calm, magical, mythical world to explore with their children and return at bedtime each night.

Possibly my favourite story of the children. Beautiful, long, short. The perfect winding-down story for getting to bed.

   Precious & magical story.
Since Day 1, I have loved this book. At 69 yrs old, the story is still magical to me. Bought this last month for my granddaughter. I 'd planned to give her the copy that Daddy had as a child, but it was lost in a fire a few months ago. She won 't know the difference, but it pulled at my heart, wanting her to hold and touch the same pages that her daddy did. Goodnight Moon is a beautiful story and my preference over Precious Moon.
