PARENTING NEVER ENDS

An essential parenting guide for building a strong relationship with your teen, while preparing them to take flight from the nest

High school: it's a time when kids are constantly changing, as they draw closer to graduation and young adulthood. But how do you parent your kids through this complicated time? And how do you maintain a strong relationship as they prepare to transition from life at home to life on their own?

Lisa Heffernan and Mary Dell Harrington are here to help. While seeing their own kids through this transition, they founded Grown and Flown: a website and online community for parents of teens that features curated content from experts, shared experiences from parents, and tried and true advice. And now they've compiled key takeaways and fresh insights from all that they've learned over the years to form this handy, essential guide.

Grown and Flown is a crucial resource for parenting teens, leading up to--and through--the transition from high school to college to those first years on their own. It covers everything from the monumental of parenting (how to let your kids go) to the mundane (how to shop for a dorm room). Organized by topic--such as academics, family life, love and sex, anxiety and mental health--it features a combination of the authors' stories, advice from experts, Read More chevron_right

I can’t believe I waited so long to order
This nugget is full of helpful information as I prepare to send my firstborn to college. There are so many things I haven t thought about. Now I feel more prepared and more at ease. It also provided great information for my high school and middle school boys. I highly recommend this book for anyone with kids about to embark on the next chapter of their life. I recommend it to all my friends and even ordered a copy for my college roommate, who also sent her second child to college!

Not what I was hoping for
Far too many lists and way too much focus on college preparation. I was hoping for something much more enlightening on relationships. The first example is so powerful, but there is not a lot of depth involved in forming a long-term adult relationship. Maybe best for parents of high school or junior high school.

   Boy-biased language
The two authors have mainly universal children, and all boy stories are presented as mainly boy stories. I thought about how old these authors are speaking like early 1970s moms? Man is universal, and woman is about women? There are many gender specific issues about parenting young adults and many experiences shared by both. Despite its problems, there are some wonderful essays written by writer mothers that the authors have included and are worth reading.

Not a fan of this book
A chapter in and it was a waste of time reading this and not helpful in any sense, so disappointed in this. I should have checked Goodreads first... So, to the donation - pile, it went in hopes that the next person who decides to purchase it will not be annoyed reading it like I was.

   Best bookclub ever!
We read this last month for our book club selection. We have been going through this transition and experiencing together the angst, excitement and unknowns. This sure helps fill the gap in advice for parents with adulting '' teens and offers expert advice on the whole process. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to speak to Lisa last night at our meeting via Skype! She was so gracious and knowledgeable. Best book club ever!

Great book for those parents navigating high school and college
This book is a great source of information for those families who are going through the process of helping their child to successfully navigate high school and college years. It is a one-stop source for all those questions that parents have, but don 't necessarily want to ask or know who to ask. With sections like Love and Sex College Admittances and all that goes with it. Separating and Letting, college move in and changing the house dynamics. It is a great read and you don 't need to read it straight through. You can access the section that you need at that time easily.

All you need to know in one book!
I received my pre-ordered copy and wish that book came out seven years ago when my four daughters were in high school and college! Lisa Heffernan and Mary Dell Harrington have written the book that every parent needs on their bedside table. From how not a lawnmower parent to understanding the teenage brain to happiness, anxiety, and mental health, they cover it all! They don 't shy away from the heavy topics, like talking to their teens about love and sex. The Website of the authors has become the number one site for parents with teens and college and they have put years of wisdom in a book. Order from me and don 't tell your kids how you got so #smart.
