If you are a Kindle, Android or PC Cloud user DO NOT get the KIndle addition!!!!

If you are a Kindle, Android or PC Cloud user, DO NOT get the Kindle addition! As for the book itself, I have used Hal Leonard books for several instruments and find them well written and extremely helpful. While I love the book, I am extremely annoyed at Amazon for reducing the experience by more than half. If I could give Amazon a rating on this eBook experience, it would be zero stars.

Simple and Enjoyable
Derived From Web , May 12, 2022
What I like most is playing along to the cd... Despite the fact that these bass lines are for beginners, they sound great with the songs they've created and makes you feel like you are actually playing real music. The songs are quite a mix of rock, blues, reggae, folk, country... while I don 't like a few of them, they are obviously trying to appeal as many tastes as possible. I am not a total beginner, but my bass teacher uses Tab and typically not actual sheet music, so it has been fun to learn music again. Here is little to no talk of scales at least in this first book i'm currently working through... it's all about learning music, where to play each note on the fretboard and then putting it together with these play-along songs.

Excellent for beginners
Derived From Web , May 12, 2022
After playing for over 20 years, I was overly thrilled when my youngest expressed interest. I was also at a loss as to what to teach her and what order to do. We've been working together through the lessons and everything seems to flow in a logical, helpful way.

It's all here if you're patient

This book is the functional equivalent of 2 years of bass lessons... for the price of a single lesson. Here is everything you need to move from newbie to soundfully intermediate. Just know that you can not jump over anything or skip past any piece. You'll need to spend 3-5 days per page or about a year in total. If you are committed to this plan, you are guaranteed to make a huge progress. I watched my wife start from absolute zero and progress in a month beyond my wildest dreams.

Good course for a person who is disciplined
Derived From Web , May 25, 2020
This is a standard technical musical study and if you complete the course, you should have good working ability as a beginner to intermediate level player. The music selections also available as play along downloads are quite fun and give an introduction to a variety of music. In this case, this would be a good course to use with professional instruction. As a self-taught course, it would benefit from additional instructions on how long to practice a piece and perhaps a suggested section that schedules the lessons. Some people are going to be discouraged because they don't realize how much time it might take to absorb basic note and theory training. Not to mention the time necessary to play the hand strength and coordination necessary to obtain the bass.

Fantastic book to learn bass
Derived From Web , Dec 26, 2019
I was taught by myself and never really learned the bass. I decided to play again and have used this book. It's great! I am reading music and building my foundations and reading my chops. You can speed it up or slow it down! I have always played in a band so that having a track to play with really helps. I would recommend this to all beginners or to anyone looking to learn the bass.

Good for those who want to learn to sight read
Derived From Web , Apr 26, 2019
I am interested in playing fills and riffs and being able to jam with other musicians. I can read music, but slowly. If I spent the time reading this book, it may bring me up to speed on sight reading, but that is not what I am looking for. Certain sections do have Tab, which really works for me.

Sight reading in minutes
Derived From Web , Aug 7, 2018
I played bass professionally for close to 15 years and for the last two years I learned a lot of songs and hardly anything about theory. I tried other books that used bass clef and tabs. While this seems convenient, I found it impossible to ween off of Tab. This book has no tab and it eases you right in. I received the book about two and half hours ago and am looking for a bass clef for the first time in my career and knowing what notes I am supposed to play. So far it is very user friendly and has helpful mnemonics that have been missing from my compendium of bass knowledge for years. I highly recommend for a beginner or for someone like me who plays a lot of songs and knows a lot, but can not read or understand the theory.
