   I don't take the time to review much...
But these books have a special kind of kid appeal that is worth the recognition! I have an advanced 4 year old reader who usually reads at a 1st grade level, but these books are so entertaining that she can 't get enough. Tonight we read the ENTIRE Happy Birthday book by Bad Kitty in one sitting. Regardless of who is reading it, a book of this length is usually unheard of for her. We took turns reading, she read two pages and I read two pages until the next thing we knew that the whole book was done! She just flew through it... She was so into it that there was never a thought of I don 't know this or that word, the words came out just. The only part I really had to read for her were the sections of Uncle Murray and a few really hard words. I kept trying to stop between each chapter to get her to bed, but she wouldn 't hear it, No, I have to see what happens next! Bruel keep writing more, I have a feeling that we will be quite quickly through the existing books!

   Humorous, but a difficult read-aloud
We bought this series as a recommendation for my almost five-year-old who is reading, but not quite at this level, so that this was a book-aloud for us. It is funny, but not hysterical, as some of the other reviews indicated. And, I'm not really lacking in a good sense of humor myself. Probably this is just not my kind of humor. It's a tedious book to read in the loud ; my child found it just slightly amusing and wanted me to skip certain pages after a while. I realize that the rating is appropriate for ages 5 and up, but I doubt that the few months until my child's birthday would make the difference whether she likes it or not. It could also be more enjoyable if the child read it to himself ; it is almost a comic book style. This series is not for us, but is for the child who enjoys having a more slap-stick style of humor.

   Birthday Girl Loved It
Nevertheless, it follows the precedent set by the other books and is a fun, charming and informative read. I told myself that I would not read graphic novels for my children, as it would make it more difficult for them to buy regular books. My daughter then fell in love with this series. She is on the verge of crossing the line from early readers - books like Frog and Toad, Little Bear and Henry and Mudge to chapter books like Magic Tree House and this is an excellent way to encourage her to read more and build up her reading stamina while having fun. On a side note, this book makes me very happy that Bad Kitty does not live with us!

   Interesting and makes kids want to read. A+
Bad Kitty loves the Granddaughter collection. She is 8 and in 3rd grade, but has the reading skills of an 8th grader. She also lends them to her friends and they always thank my daughter for enabling her children to read as well. Great job, John!

   Paperback in Black and White!!
Was really excited to receive this book for our son's birthday and disappointed to learn that the book was in black and white. If I had known it, I would have ordered the hardback.
