This book is broken up into two sections brooding chicks ...
This book is divided into two sections, brooding chicks first comes and incubating Hatching second. The author feels that you should be able to hatch the chicks to layers before you worry about raising eggs. I felt that the information on brooding was complete and that advanced beginners or higher level of poultry enthusiasts might find this section redundant. I, however, would say that if you can hardly raise chickens, you can not hatch any eggs. In my opinion, it is worth the money.

Terrific Resource for the Chicken Hearted
I don 't think there is a more reliable source of chicken information than Gail Damerow, and this book does not disappoint. It came yesterday and I sat with it after dinner. Before I read it, I knew half the book! Her writing is really entertaining and her tips are most welcome. I am no longer a newbie with backyard poultry, but I still got lots of management ideas that I never thought of or read about elsewhere.

   Great book
I read this book only before I start my eggs in an incubator. I read a few web pages and a few poultry books, but still had many questions about incubating eggs. I have the hard version, but I could add the kindle copy to my wish list just in case. This book is well written, nicely organized and full of information that I couldn t find anywhere else.

If you are looking for up-to-date scientific, practical information about attracting, hatching and caring for chicks and other birds, well, this is the book to read. This book is well written, concise and informative and belongs in any library that wants to hatch eggs or rear chicks. I have several of the author's books, they are all a great investment for improving your knowledge about chickens and other species of poultry.

   Very informative
One for raising chickens, the other for incubating eggs. This is also a good book for understanding the mechanics of chickens, parts of the egg, different incubators and their functions, etc. I really like how she presents two perspectives of doing things modern as well as old fashioned... which may be helpful to someone on a budget or just likes to do things DIY style. The only thing I don 't like is that it was kind of general with explaining some pretty wordy topics.

   CONCISE EXCELLENT RESOURCEFULL
I raise my own chickens and I decided to buy an incubator to hatch more chicks. Before you make that very important decision, I advise anyone to first get educated. Mistakes can be paid by innocent little lives! Mrs. Damerow is a known publicist and this book will not disappoint you. I have just absorbed tons of practical hints and useful tips from the book. Despite my great experience as a third generation poultry keeper, this book is a must have. Remember, knowledge and skills can be stolen! More you know, more valuable as an intellectual person you are.
