With nearly a million copies sold, Joanna Weaver's popular book shows women how to blend intimacy with Jesus and service for Him.
An invitation for every woman who feels she isn't godly enough. isn't loving enough. isn't doing enough. The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet. but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him. yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy. Then comes Jesus, right into the midst of your busy Mary/Martha life-and he extends the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters of Bethany. Tenderly he invites you to choose the better part-a joyful life of living-room intimacy with him that flows naturally into kitchen service for him. How can you make that choice? With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story and its creative, practical strategies, Joanna shows how all of us -Marys and Marthas alike- can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy. This book includes a twelve-week Bible study. Martha was not an over-the-top decorator like Martha Stewart
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I think the author missed the whole point. '' Martha Stewart was not an over-the-top decorator like Martha. Her problem was ANXIETY and WORRY. The book makes Martha's character weak and makes her look like a pintrest fanatic. All the work of the food preparation fell on her.

It's possible to have a Mary heart in a world of Marthas!
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
Joanna Weaver is an amazing, gifted, and insightful author! She combines the word of God with poignant transparency. She has a way of tying this biblical world in the days and times of the New Testament in the modern world. This is a great book and a valuable tool in ministering to the women of today who have so much adversity and expectations placed on them. Cyndi is a Cyndi Cyndi.

Excellent Study Guide
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
My church circle uses this as our next year's study guide. The material in many ways is new and refreshing and appeals to all ages. The questions for each chapter extend the discussion and make for a more open and sharing time together as women.

I love this book because as women we get caught up ...
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I love this book because as women we get caught in Martha's being. We have families and jobs and things to do constantly. We often give God our leftovers versus our first fruits. And this book helps me to slow down in being Martha and get in tune with my inner Mary.

Aren't we all Martha's?
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
We bought this book to do a women's study group in our church. It was the best choice for women who live and work in a busy world and are trying to find the proper balance. Joanna Weaver has a keen insight into women's lives and lists great things to see in our selves. It challenges women to find time to be both a Martha and a Mary and gives positive suggestions on how to. It is a great book to discuss in a discussion group. There won't be enough time for everyone to give their feed back.

Excellent for Young Women
Derived From Web , Feb 11, 2022
We are taught to do more and better than those around us. Sometimes we are on the go, always with God's relationship with us. It is very helpful because it gives you an insight into someone in the Bible who has been through this. It teaches us how to strengthen our relationship with God and let go of the earthy tasks that keep us away from getting better to know him. The book also includes exercises and questions, which one can complete alone or perhaps with book club friends. I am in my 20s and I love it!

A woman's guide to Christian Living
Derived From Web , Aug 20, 2021
The author takes her reader through the New Testament Bible, which is related to two sisters, Martha and Mary. She notes that we were created to say “yes†to the calls of duty and devotion, the balance between Martha's Living Room Intimacy and Mary's Kitchen Service. “The secret of balance worship and work, devotion and service, love of God and love of others is to keep our connection with Jesus Christ,†Weaver writes. Our relationship with him is the Fulcrum, the Anchor, the Stabilizing Point that makes balance possible in the first place. And the deeper that relationship goes, the more stable the balance will be in this study, Weaver has chosen what is better devoted to faith, transformation and balance.

Best Devotional Book I’ve Read in Awhile
Derived From Web , Jan 5, 2020
I had heard of this classic, but I dismissed it mentally. There is a reason why it is a classic! Insightful, directly addressing the battle that many Christians face between duty and devotion, humbling, well-written, with gripping imagery and applications... This was the right book for me at the right time, and I highly recommend it.

A Very Real Book.
Derived From Web , Mar 20, 2018
For me, this book was very timely. I was led to it when I wrestled with the author's very issue. I also love the references and have two new books in my catalogue. It is not a book of ideas, but a book of relatable experiences in all our walks with the Lord and how we can move beyond them to greater intimacy with Him.
