   Warning: NOT the original translation!
I got as far as the editor's cover in this book, where it lists the author and translator, Elisabeth P. Stork. Charles Thomas Tritten was originally translated by Heidi into English. It will immediately return and I have already ordered another copy, this time with the translation of Tritten. A search on Amazon for Charles Tritten, translated by Heidi, shows a listing for the book with the original translation.

   Don't buy this version!
This version should not be bought. We were excited about this book, but we send this copy back for one we can actually read.

   Off to vist Alm-Uncle
I read an abridged version of this well-known story as a child and decided to read it again on a cold spring night. Within a few pages, I was taken to the Alps with Heidi, as she fought the long mountain trail bundled in too many clothes to meet her formidable grandfather. Sometimes, revisiting childhood favorites is disappointing, but this was not. There are certainly some sour notes, some details are highly improbable and at times the tone gets overly sweet or preachy, but overall this is a very enjoyable story that has held very well. The kindle edition of this was well done, no terrible formatting errors distracting from the narrative. There are no illustrations included in this version, leaving the reader to rely on their own imagination to picture the scenes that Spyri has so vividly described. It is perhaps better this way.

a family heirloom for our time
When the local high school announced their production to my second grade class with coloring pages, he took interest in it. Since I have a weakness for a pretty book, I bought this expensive version over the more beautiful paperbacks. The cover is beautiful and the story will exist for a very long time. I look forward to making an heirloom of this book.

   Delightful
What a significant influence did this book on me! My sister and I named our pets after Heidi's goats, but as hard as I tried, I could never muster up any enthusiasm for goat milk. Mom tried adding honey, but I found it still repulsive. If you love this book, seek out the sequels written by Charles Tritten, the man who worked closely with Johanna Spyri to translate her works into French.

   Beautiful
I read it because I am a teacher and is on our 6th grade curriculum. I was reading it before I was @12. I had not liked much of it, except that I remembered it. As an adult, I saw different things. It is lovely. I especially like the unabashed Christian spirituality ''. Almost tempted me to learn German to read it in the original. I bet that poetry is even more powerful there.

   Hello Old Friend!
I have loved an abridged version of this beautiful story since I was eight. I wanted to know everything about what happened to Clara and Heidi. I also loved meeting new people. I '', I think that this version would be more appropriate for a ten-year-old child, rather than one of just eight. There are larger words and more depth to the long chapters. What a joy!

   Enjoyable
This is the first time I ever read Heidi, so I can 't comment on the translation. I read the free kindle version and enjoyed it. There are no illustrations that say the end of the chapter illustration etc. There are some bold phrases that are randomly repeated in the middle of chapters. Anyway, I am 39 years old and I enjoyed it, but I think it would bore my 10 year old son, though I think it is technically a children's book.

   I love them.
My heart melted just. When I was around 12, I thought I had 2 classic children's books. This is Robbin Hood and this is the one Heidi ordered. The Heidi book was lost and it has just bothered me for a year that I didn 't have it. Ppl would talk to me about my cool Robbin Hood book and I would say that it would be Robbin and Heidi. I looked at Amazon and knew that they had the exact book. It looks just like my book Robbin Hood. I opened it to look at all the familiar pictures and my heart melted just. For years, I travelled with a backpack with these two books and Tigger and Pooh. I didn 't want to be with them anymore. I really love having them both together. Thank you ''.

It is not the original version
It says it is the original author's story, as told by another person. It did NOT make it clear that it is a dumbed version of the original. I was reviewing it for some information I needed and ended up having to reorder another copy of the book. While some people might know to interpret, I did not and I think it should be clear that it is a shortened version.
