Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Louis Darling was the very first illustrator to give the world of Beverly Cleary a face. His renderings of the Klickitat Street adventures became a gateway to imagination and the joy of reading for generations of children. Now, more than sixty years later, his illustrations once again grace the pages of classic stories by Beverly Cleary. With a foreword by New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi, Henry Huggins--the beloved author's debut novel--will be enjoyed by a whole new generation of readers!

I wish something exciting would happen, Henry Huggins often thought. For a third-grade boy, life on Klickitat Street was just about as exciting as getting your tonsils out. That is, until the thump, thump, thump of a stray dog's tail changed Henry's life forever. From that moment on, the two were inseparable.

Beginning with trouble on the bus trip home that leads to a thrilling ride in a police car, Ribsy ensures that Henry will never have another dull moment. Together, Henry and Ribsy cause more excitement than Klickitat Street can handle!

   Fun read
My daughter absolutely loves them. The second volume contains 11 bonus books that expand her vocabulary and contain some good life lessons.

Good read with my 6 year old
My 6-year-old enjoyed the cast and characters of Klikitat Street and all of the things that Henry gets involved in, Melissa said.

Great to Visit with an Old Friend!
I first read this book in 1964. Full of classics including "Guppies and the Night Crawlers." But 50 years ago I was drawn to the world of Ramona and the Brothers. It was great to be back with old friends, said Mrs Hughes. He added that getting the book in the hardback format was the right thing to do. Thick yellow pages, slight mildew smell, Louis Darling scribbles from generations of kids. Like a time machine.

Very out dated and kind of bland and boring.
Definitely not one of the best books I've ever read, said Blair. For one thing, it's set in 1958 or something like that so none of the terminology and a lot of the stuff doesn't even make sense. It takes 40 weeks to earn as much as it does today, Mr. Henry told the judge. They also said they fed their dog raw horse meat. The book has about seven chapters each one is about some different part of Henry's normal everyday life. There is nothing spectacular about Henry at all, and nothing spectacular happens in the book.

   Granddaughters Enjoyed It!
This was a cute story, and my girls enjoyed it, too. What bothered me a little was that it had not been updated for the times when I was researching this project. There are some things in it that just don't make sense anymore. It gave me an opportunity to explain to people how life used to be, Mr. Kennedy said. It's just too much to expect a current and updated book, Tunick said. sorry, not bought it and have just bought another one in the series.

Cute book about the adventures of a boy and his new dog.
If you are going to buy the digital version, do yourself a favor and buy the audio. Neil Patrick Harris is the voice.

   Last minute order for school!
Online classes are also available at no cost to students at school. I needed it quick, Mr. Caramore said. So I was very happy when I could order this book on my kindle tablet so he had it on his tine to read with his online teacher! Amazon saved my life, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Ps.: This is a parody. Yes, I do. It's a lot of fun, I can assure you of this. Easy to read, Mr. Rule told the judge.

Wonderful series but great as individual books too!
A great book. We are all loving it, reading to our 6 and 8 year old grandsons. We purchased paperback editions of the other two books, and they were in perfect condition, too. It would be wonderful to hand over to future generations, he said. Great for gifts or hostess gifts.

   My son enjoyed it
He really connected with the characters and enjoyed the story so fast, I recommend it to anyone. He's so glad he liked it and it was a good book to do a report on, Mary Beth Williams, co-owner of Rescue 2, said of the book.

   loved it!
Some parts of the story were written in the 1960s, but it was still a good story. I had to explain to my son what a typewriter was and how you couldn't just backspace and fix a mistake, Mrs Clinton said. I remember reading the series when I was growing up and had no idea there was a Ramona series by the same author. We will be reading more Henry Huggins books, Mr. Dhaliwal said.
