Book Overview

Francis Joseph Cassavant is eighteen. He has just returned home from the Second World War, and he has no face. He does have a gun and a mission: to murder his childhood hero.
Francis lost most of his face when he fell on a grenade in France. He received the Silver Star for bravery, but was it really an act of heroism? Now, having survived, he is looking for a man he once admired and respected, a man adored by many people, a man who also received a Silver Star for bravery. A man who destroyed Francis's life.

Not impressed with condition of book
There is a book that is very old looking and yellow. I was looking for a book that was in better condition.

   Disappointed
The black design faded out after I washed it. I washed it according to the instructions from the manufacturers. Not happy with this purchase.

   Amazing read
I found this book in my middle school library when I was a kid. I had to see how it ended because it had me from the beginning. I read for 3 hours. My high school did not have the book. I spoke about it, but couldn't remember the name. One of my favorite books is back in my life after I researched it.

   Meh
I can do that to you later today, my girlfriend is in San Diego, and my new job is going well.

   A refreshingly realistic novel
A lot of Amazon readers like happy endings and think every book should be uplifting. That's not what life is all about. A realistic story about a young man who has been shattered by several events in his life, including being deformed by a grenade in WW2. The post- war story about Frenchtown in Canada is about how the war shaped the town. The old Westerns Francis, the story's main character, is not as complex a concept as the heroes. He used to go to the cinema with his girlfriend. I like that the resolutions are realistic. This novel is very refreshing for the ya genre. The grim story doesn't oversimplify life. This is not for people who like simple, peppy books.
