   Be prepared for very graphic language.
My students love graphic novels and I am always looking to add to my classroom library. It came in the mail and I decided to read it myself before I put it on my classroom shelf. I am so glad I did. The language is very graphic, Raymond said. But I would have had parents lining up at my door if their children brought this book home. I teach in a small rural district and the language in this book is simply too graphic.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I've read all the books, but this was by far the best. It really showed what this kid went through, "Teethgrinder" added. It's great to be back home, said Blair.

I'll probably never read a book like this one again. New York Times best-selling novelist Nicholas Pileggi said he plans to read the entire book in two sittings. Beautifully written and illustrated by Simon Malloch, The Eyeopener will leave you open-mouthed.

   "Must read" for educators
As an educator, Krosoczka's memoir provided me with insight into the anguish some of my students may be feeling when drug addiction is a part of their family. There is a strong love-hate theme in this book, and it is not just for the mother. I'm not sure I have words, but having grown up in this time period, I recognize the dress, what was said, the WAY things were said, and other aspects of this time period and the class portrayed culture. Rather than just creating images of the moment, the illustrations served to make what happened even more real for me. Even though the bulk of the memoir takes place in the 1980s-90s, Krosniak's experience is probably still very real for many of our students.

   Powerful, Impactful, Fantastic
I've never read a more powerful, beautiful, and disturbing graphic novel. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is so real, Morgenthau said. I love how it works in so many ways, and I think it's great how it works with time, too, because students can connect to such a variety of topics, Bridges said. The whole thing is a true story, a genuine story, an important story, Mr. Shelby said. There is just too many kids who can't wait to read it.

To members of the national RAPP, this is a book for you. I'll be using this book at the Brookdale national conference on Oct. 26 in New Jersey for relatives who are raising children whose parents are not on the scene due to their drug world. An imperfect world that can still offer hope and the humanities to our young, Raymond said.

   Such a timely topic written in a format young adults love!
The Hoffa is an extremely honest and real person. He spoke of children who are being raised by grandparents because of the addictions of their parents. I'm thrilled to see this topic addressed as a graphic novel, Libowitz said. It's great to be back home, said Blair.

   Living this life
When I first read the book, I knew I had to read it. Now I'm living this life as the grandparent. We adopted her because we couldn't bear to raise her alone, said her biological mother, Shirley. She knows why we have her, Ava said. When she's older, we'll share this book with her. But for now, I'll share it with my 8th graders and hope that it makes an impact in their lives.
